Wow, I've barely written 13 pages and I'm already finding their love a little insufferable to my cold joyless heart.

Anyway, we played some D&D ourselves this weekend. And good news, we're still alive! Despite everything.

Making Shining Armor as big a Dork as his sister was the single best thing they ever did for his character...

That and Sleep Deprivation Shiney from the episode Flurryheart was born, that was hilarious XD

Attack bonuses? Who needs attack bonuses when you can just charm everyone on the battlefield?

Of course, Helen of Troy probably has something to say about that...
BackSet 9th Jun 2020, 10:34 AM edit delete reply
Helen simaltaniously rolled the best possible rolls and the worst possible rolls.

Divine shipping intervention did not help.

My wife and I first met at a D&D club in college and were good friends for many years until it just seemed natural to get hitched together.

Never role-played as a couple though. I was usually the DM anyway, so probably best we didn't. Don't wanna look like I play favorites. :p

Not D&D related, but I met my husband in the play-by-post RP section of a Pokemon forum.

The running joke is somehow, whenever I GM, the hubby's PC always gets the worst of things...

Me and my wife met in a gaming club in college. We often played rpgs together, but despite both of us playing D&D we didn't play that together until we got married. Been married for 8 years now.

So, I'm not sure if Cadence is already Chrysalis, or if our foreknowledge of Canterlot Wedding is being used to set up a plot twist. But if it's the former, I'm pretty sure Cadence is trolling the rest of the table.
Guest 9th Jun 2020, 1:25 PM edit delete reply
I've said it before, but I would bet that there is no actual Candence in this version and that Shiny know she's a Changeling Queen.
Anvildude 9th Jun 2020, 3:10 PM edit delete reply
Ooh, that opens up a LOT of possibilities! So Cadence gets to play a BBEG for a few sessions... Means there's a LOT more screenshots that can be used, combining the two into a single character.
Warlock 9th Jun 2020, 9:50 PM edit delete reply
Of course, that also invites a different question: Would the DM actually go for that? Given the last time he had a player at the table being the BBEG (ala discorDM), it didn't go so well. And yes, things have progressed a bit, but some scars make us more gunshy than we care to admit.

It's possible, though probable, but maybe in real life, this might take a few parties before such a shot was made again.

The DM is particularly unable to learn from their mistakes, and I don't trust Twilight's estranged brother to not pull that kind of things.
Guest 11th Jun 2020, 5:08 AM edit delete reply
As evidence for the DM not learning from their mistakes:

They AGAIN based a whole scenario on some players having much more information about and control over the situation than the rest of the group.
Guest 11th Jun 2020, 5:10 AM edit delete reply
I would bet that the session will go with "Cadence" acting more and more shiftily and with Shining's player telling Twilight's player she's imagining things while being utterly smug about how """"smart"""" they are for having DM-allowed shenanigans.
Wulfraed 10th Jun 2020, 9:10 AM edit delete reply
Cadance stated "NPC" "TODAY"...

I think the NPC role is Chrysalis -- but the "today" implies that Mi Amore Cadenza will make appearance in the future.

I suspect "today" will end at the point where Twilight is sent into the under caverns, and the group's next session will continue where Twilight discovers Cadance is a prisoner too.

I'm seeing a potential guest story arc (don't know how it would fit into a main story arc, that'd be a NewbieSpud thing to work out) where we get the cast sitting down to play Ogres & Oubliettes inside this game...

On the subject of big reveals or other life changes through the medium of tabletop games, anyone have a story to share?

Myself, I came out to my friends at the start of a campaign with a character that more or less represented how I was coming out.
Anvildude 9th Jun 2020, 3:12 PM edit delete reply
Good for you!

That's one of the things that I think I love about RPGs, is that it allows you to put yourself into a character that can do things that aren't necessarily 'you.' Whether that's stuff you want to make sure you don't want, or stuff you want to work towards.

D&D the matchmaker... Any story of pairings that developed playing D&D just like Shining and Cadence?
Zab 9th Jun 2020, 11:32 PM edit delete reply
first time commenting, but imma take a moment and be 'that chick' and brag that I also met my husband at my first dnd session ever and I first became interested in him because I was jealous of how good he was at the game lol. Then the jealousy turned to admiration, admiration to friendship, friendship to love...and now we've been married over 7 years ^.^

My husband (then fiance) and I hadn't discovered D&D when he proposed to me. He instead arranged with our local wrestling promoter to be able to make his proposal during their intermission. His exact words were "With this ring, in this ring, will you marry me?"

But he has since confirmed that if we had already been into D&D, he would have definitely proposed to me via D&D.

Oh god, both of these stories are so choice.

I'm so happy for all of you.

I really hope that the lesson from this arc won't be "you should forgive and hang out with your family even if you don't get along for legitimate reasons, because they're family"
Guest 11th Jun 2020, 5:04 AM edit delete reply
Would be nice if it was "yes if a family member is a jerk to you you should cut them off because your well-being is more important than fAmIllY" but I don't think that'll go this way.
