Even without shuffling the timeline around so that these two season finales are basically happening at the same time, are they wrong?

I've always wondered how the information that there was threat got to them.

Personal head canon:Thorax. Found out what's going on, left a message, and got out of there.

I credit it to Chrysalis. Viewed properly, she's a much more shrewd infiltrator than she gets credit for. I believe she dropped the note herself to foster paranoia and keep the ponies looking for an *impending* invasion so they wouldn't notice the one that had already happened.
Veylon 13th Jun 2020, 4:52 PM edit delete reply
That's my take on it, too.

I didn't like Discord arc and wasn't happy with you prolonging it, but I tip my fedora: you are doing awesome job with what you have right now.
RuBoo 13th Jun 2020, 8:52 AM edit delete reply
They are not wrong, Chrysalis is definitely crazy. I'd say madder than Discord, but he'd probably take that as an insult.

Insulting discord is good for him, it keeps him from getting complacent :p
Wulfraed 14th Jun 2020, 6:06 AM edit delete reply
Discord isn't "mad"... When you come down to it, he's a force that is a counter to entropy (consider -- the most ordered state of nature is one that has run down to where everything is at an equal energy level... eg: nothing takes place... Discord unbalances that).

Actually no, entropy is chaos. Energy isn't destroyed, it just becomes less useful as it becomes scattered and less structured. Maintaining structure and energy requires constant effort, which is why things fall apart if you neglect them.

So the character Discord may be gray in the show, but in reality chaos is inseparably tied to destruction, death, and insanity.

Chrysalis gets crazier the further through the series you get. For the most part, the attack on Canterlot was well-executed, only failing due to underestimating just how powerful Cadance and Shining's love for each other was. Then by the time you get to the full-scale invasion of Equestria, she's at the point where she thinks keeping everybody capable of defeating her *in the same room, the throne room no less* is a good idea.
zimmerwald1915 13th Jun 2020, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
Surely the fact that she was able to keep them anywhere in particular, at her whim, proved that they were not in fact capable of defeating her?
LupisLight 13th Jun 2020, 11:06 PM edit delete reply
I seriously beg to differ about the attack on Canterlot Castle being 'well executed'.

Firstly, she put at most a bare minimum of effort, if even that, into impersonating Cadence, despite needing to fool the one pony (Twilight), who knew Cadance personally. She had to have known that Twilight was going to be present, so either she hadn't bothered to do her research on the pony she was replacing and known that Cadence and Twilight knew each other personally, or she did know and just couldn't be bothered to act anything close to how the real Cadence would have. Even disregarding that secret hoofshake she probably couldn't have known about, that was the sloppiest impersonation I have EVER seen.

Secondly, after her cover was blown, she basically only beat Celestia by dumb luck (even Chryaslis was surprised she won). Any other day Celestia would have taken her down, and then her army as well.

Frankly it's a miracle that invasion went as well as it actually did...

The attack on Canterlot went south the moment it was planned as an attack. Diplomacy almost certainly would have worked, as proven by Thorax and the... *shudder* "Metamorphosed" Changelings... But she instead decided to risk the safety of her people formulating an attack, almost certainly dooming them to extinction were it not for a certain Changeling who would rather make friends than fight.

So here was how I always spun the attack on Canterlot Castle in my head.

Queen Chrysalis infiltrates Canterlot, most likely at a lower station pony as she learns about Cadence, and catacombs etc. When she feels sufficiently ready she replaces the Alicorn and imprisons her where no one will find her. She then tips the city off of an external attack. The shield shields itself off and paranoia rises, and in doing so families stay closer together and their warm feelings to make it through the bad also surfaces in greater amounts.

Chrysalis begins to Siphon love from Shinning Armor and slowly bends him to her will so she controls the barrier, which means she can now control who goes in and out of the city. Were twilight and company not to show up the plan would of continued to the wedding where the changeling attack occurs but the goal isn't conquest.

Using the catacombs below the city during the confusion various ponies would be captured and imprisoned there much like with Cadence. Just when all seems lost Shining Armor erects a barrier to save the town but now the barrier isn't for safety its to keep in the food source.

Chrysalis now sits relatively high in position of power in Canterlot as her changelings now fill the roles of the missing family members both in the city itself and with those imprisoned down below. For those above the fear of another attack makes them stay close together and share their love and warm emotions to get through it all, feeding those above. While those imprisoned below also huddle together to share warm thoughts to outlast the cruel outcome upon them, feeding the changelings disguised below.

Meanwhile Chrysalis feeds on Shinning armor until such time she thinks herself confident to overthrow Celestia and Luna and then rule the city and pony nation, slowly spreading out from that point.

Panel 2... panel 3... panel 4... yes, this happens sometimes when a GM sets a minimal stage to let the players do the world-building for a moment, but the players aren't sure what to do with it.

But looks like they got some good ground now to work with. :3

Did both Twilight and Shinning make allusions to Candace/Chrysalis’ mental State?

"Why are you having a wedding in the middle of this chaos god outbreak?"

A line that, unfortunately, could apply just as appropriately to real life right now.
BackSet 14th Jun 2020, 7:43 AM edit delete reply
World keeps turning, I guess.

Though honestly I would be less worried about a chaos god outbreak than what we've currently got. At least he's contained to one town, however temporarily that might be.
Platonix 15th Jun 2020, 8:10 AM edit delete reply
Plus, at least there's one consistent source of the problem then. As a certain griffin once said, "If someone's pulling strings? STRINGS CAN BE CUT."
Chakat Firepaw 13th Jun 2020, 5:30 PM edit delete reply
Honestly, it's not as strange as it sounds. Remember, "the British are busy with Napoleon," was what led to American military adventurism and the attempted annexing of British America.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Twilight, Celestia, and Luna are capable of teleport and don't trigger any alarms, Spike's message scrolls can appear in the throne room without triggering alarms.

How often have we seen the guards even stop someone at the gates (prior to that late season episode with the guard geese).
Wulfraed 14th Jun 2020, 6:14 AM edit delete reply
There was supposed to be a "What security?" preface to the above comment...
RuBoo 14th Jun 2020, 8:39 AM edit delete reply
The guards are relatively incompetent, but at the same time, they exist. That security.
Also, teleportation isn't necessarily something just anyone can do effortlessly, and Spike's scrolls are Spike's scrolls. The only issues would be if Twilight/Celestia/Luna/any-combination-of-the-three turned evil.

Yeah, for some reasons trying to make someone RP with their estranged sibling doesn't work.

I sincerely hope that this arc is resolved by Twilight going "you know what? I was wrong, I can't do it. I'm never playing with those two ever again."

I know it's unlikely to go that way but gods and angels I would love it if it did.
Guest 14th Jun 2020, 8:55 PM edit delete reply
No one's "making" her do anything, though, and you even point it out. She was asked, "Is this okay?" and given an out she didn't take. And she doesn't seem to hate her sibling or his fiancé, they just aren't buddy-buddy, which is honestly a nice change of pace for sibling portrayals. Just that nice touch of awkward.
Guest 14th Jun 2020, 8:59 PM edit delete reply
Oh! Wait, I think I misunderstood. Were you referring strictly to the "Let's shove you two in a scene and have you talk!" scene goin' on on the page? Thaaaat makes sense. It would've been better if they had more organically approached each other, I suppose. Either way, I apologize!
