Twilight Sparkle: Well... I'm completely blanking on an idea to identify each other.
Princess Cadance: Hmmm... <roll> Sunshine, sunshine, ladybugs awake...
Twilight Sparkle: Huh?
Princess Cadance: ...clap your hooves and do a little shake...!
Twilight Sparkle: Was that a... nursery rhyme and a little dance? Wait... My natural 1 from when I tried to roll Insight on the imposter... That embarrassing dance the DM said I did...
DM: You made up an actual song and dance for that? It was just a throwaway gag.
Princess Cadance: Yep. If that's alright. That way Twilight doesn't have to be embarrassed alone.
DM: I mean, I guess it's up to her.
(beat, Twilight smiles broadly)
I like when a GM turns a 1 around later into something useful to the players. That is so difficult to pull off! Yet, I feel bad when otherwise competent PCs keep rolling poorly on the dice.
Aw, that was sweet. It's lovely to see the players bonding like this, especially since it's implied to be repairing a misunderstanding between them due to Shining not communicating well.
Doubly so in contrast to the Discord arc. These guests are doing right everything Discord did wrong, and we should all be taking notes.
It's so insanely silly it could only be an injoke between two people who very close. Also, it helps explain so much why Twilight and Cadence become so close later despite the years of estrangement.
I'm genuinely impressed by your ability to make this moment so heartwarming considering the lower stakes and the completely different context. You've made one hell of a wholesome character in Candance's player.
Pinkie Pie: A girl after my own heart!
