Fluttershy: I’m not big on party crashing, so… Are there any animals I can talk to?
DM: You find out that the birds in the area are having their own party: The annual Canterlot Bird Fest. Roll Nature to see if you can talk your way into the event.
Fluttershy: Um… <roll> 32.
DM: They want you to be a guest speaker! But in the excited chattering in the trees, a bunch of leaves, pollen, and birdseed drifts onto the pony party guests below.
Fluttershy: Oh… Sorry…
Applejack: I know exactly what I wanna do. With my hooves, I start digging into the soil and pulling out weeds and whatnot.
DM: This… attracts attention.
Applejack: Once I’ve got a crowd, I say, “How come y’all aren’t doing any gardening? This is a garden party, isn’t it?”
Rarity: That’s horrifying.
Applejack: Then I tell everybody this is a performance art piece satirizing the inherent hubris of upper-class nomenclature.
Rarity: …That’s horrifyingly brilliant.
The resulting discussion about the quality of the art, the meaning of the art, and the definition of the word "art" lasted for several days.
Yesterday was the comic's third birthday. I almost completely missed it due to how hectic and uncertain my life has gotten lately. But at the same time, this comic is a rare constant in my life, and right now I appreciate that (and all of you) more than ever.
...So basically, for the third year in a row, I don't have anything special planned for the anniversary. No, my plans are for Page 500...
Note: Guest comic submissions are now open! Guidelines here. Current deadline: 4/1/21.
Oh... Okay...
I'll just sit over here, then - I mean, if that's okay with you...
(Speaking of the number 5, has anyone given 5e a look-see? I've only just figured out fourth edition, but I'm curious about the new generation's mechanics.)
I have not only given 5e a look-see, but I have also participated in the 2012-2013 public playtest, and I am playing in a 5E PbP game hosted on EN World. (The Basic game is freely available as of July 2014.)
Of course, PbP doesn't go fast at all -- we sometimes go days or weeks between posts -- but other players report that 5e plays very fast.
The 5e playtest rules were an interesting 3e variant. The finalized rules are much better. Basically taking good things from both 3e and 4e. Though I am still awaiting the DM side of things. It would make or break the system for me.
4e did the DM side of things exceptionally well. Much better than 3e.
I recently began playing D&D next (or 5e) with a bunch of people who are completely new to the game and we're doing rather well while having a blast.
Seeing as the corebooks haven't been released yet, we play using this (the final public playtest)

Here's to another good year of great comics!
I hope this comic continues to bring you joy and stability for years to come, and don't forget that we all appreciate you and your amazing work as well.
I... have just had a flashback of a few years ago about the definition of art. that definition (by an art book said) is, "A piece or object that is spoken about long after it was seen is art". The example that followed was a guy who wrote his name and the words "This is Art" on a toilet, went into an art museum, and left it there.
...
I don't know whether or not it is still there. (This was about 30-50 years ago I think.)
Even funnier than when I was playing a paladin with ranks in Profession Magistrate. We were trying to determine if this evil chick we were hunting was nearby and had possibly found her bedroom as well as a sketchbook full of portraits of her, nude and clothed.
Naturally, I believed I should be able to "judge" whether or not it was really her bed based on the scale drawings.
I'd try it too, but I doubt the residents of the Tiji Sector would be likely to buy it. So I'll just keep shooting them.
At least now I have tranquilizers so I can avoid splattering any more civilians...
Perhaps it's because she's at a High Society function. Formative years, and all that. Now if she starts wearing a beehive on her head, I'd be worried about slippage.
