Once Mafia have numerical superiority there's no point in playing anymore. They can win every vote no matter what the civilians do. You could keep going, but it's a little pointless and mean on the losing team.
Basically, yeah. Once the Mafia outnumbers Civilians, they can control the lynching votes and make sure that no Mafia ever gets lynched. At that point, there's no chance for the town to win. You might as well call it there, particularly since, if you're revealing roles as people are eliminated, everybody will be able to do the maths.
This is why I enjoy the town of salem variety with a major and the jailor is considered default for someone.
The mayor can come out as the mayor, and be considered for 3 votes. With a jailor, he can be kept safe until the jailor is killed.
Personally, I love the jailor role, because I can have the huge death list, and in the event of the mafia killer, if there is one, you can lynch them, or ensure if the serial killer is about, you auto-end him.
Either way, town jailor is very much something few folks like to do, and that can win a game for towns-folk between keeping a doc safe, or keeping mafia from being able to kill.
Pinkie, Pinkie, Pinkie! You've committed what we Mafia/Wolf players call a "tell". You may as well claim Cop and have the Mafia and Nurse play chicken with you for the rest of the game, because you've just planted a huge target on your back.
At some point, you have to take the risk. Heck, half the games I play, the first thing that happens on Day 1 is that two people will claim to be the Sheriff and will try to convince the group that they investigated particular parties. Then, both will tragically announce that the Nurse had better 1) stay quiet to avoid being targeted by the Mafia and 2) protect them or the Mafia will kill them and there will be no Sheriff to find the Mafia.
@Pablo360: That's exactly the point. Both the Sheriff and a Mafia-member both declare themselves as a Sheriff, and the Nurse has to decide which is right. The citizens then have a choice...ignore both (wasting their best source of accurate info...at least for a while...as well as leaving an almost-certainly-Mafia member free), trust one and not the other (risking that the one they trust is Mafia) or lynch both (wasting their best source of accurate info.)
If the Mafia doesn't offer an alternative to an active Sheriff, the Sheriff will quickly gain the trust of the Citizens and the Mafia will get readily whittled away. Especially if the nurse trusts the active Sheriff and the Mafia wastes their kills on that Sheriff.
If a faux Sheriff from the Mafia is active and the Sheriff isn't, the Mafia is sure to quickly win as the Citz are both lynched and killed in short order. Especially if the Nurse wastes their saves on the faux Sheriff that was never at risk to begin with.
That's why there's always two who announce their Sheriff-hood. The Mafia don't kill the sheriff that way (since it would quickly reveal who the faux Sheriff is,) letting the true sheriff do his job for long enough to be helpful. The citz stay confused, but at least have a fair chance to survive long enough to get an advantage. And, it's up to the Citz to figure out which Sheriff is real to get the full benefit of the true Sheriff's info.
Probably gambling on the nurse protecting her, though she better hope they vote out a mafia member and she guided them toward them or they might think she's bluffing, while the mafia will almost certainly target her just to be safe
Since GITP forums are down, allow me to speak WITHOUT SPOILERS of today episode:
My Little Pony: FiM - Season 7 Episode 8 - Hard to Say Anything
It was both cute and cringeworthy! It was not as bad the second time though...
All in all, I believe it wasn't a bad episode... but they made Justin Bieber as a pony! You know your villain of the day is good when you feel like punching it in the teeth every time you see him!
As for the moral, it was... fine I guess. I can't say what it was to avoid spoilers but I believe its one important to know. I just wish the ending was more... satisfying? It ended on a bad note for a certain somepony and I wish it wasn't downplayed because its a kid show. The lesson would have being better this way!
Yep, season 7 is what's currently coming out. Just two and a half more, then another season opener, and we're in double digits. It's had to stretch and sideline some things to keep going, but it's doing that and trotting right along.

Hell that's what I'd say if I were the Mafia and wanted it to be sporting.
Or if I wanted to play a long con and trick the villagers into making a foolhardy decision…
