Pinkie Pie: I use Jinx Shot on the Imoen pony!
Twilight Sparkle: I use Color Spray on that whole group!
DM: I assume you're using Pinkie's prerolls to make up some of the misses. Nice work; you dealt pretty good damage to Imoen and cleared out quite a few of the ninjas.
Pinkie Pie: Oooooooh… More of them are still standing than I kinda wanted…
Twilight Sparkle: Hmm… You know what, leave them to me for next round. Focus on supporting the others.
DM: Fluttershy, you're up again. Garrett is looking menacingly in your direction.
Fluttershy: Ummmm… Could I have my Angel bunny move in and use his animal attack?
DM: You certainly can.
Fluttershy: Yaaaaaay!
DM: Rainbow Dash?
Rainbow Dash: Grrrr. I just wanna kill one of these things! Should I use Brutal Slam, or…? Screw it – Desperate Fury! It's a perfect name right now anyway.
DM: That's a miss.
Rainbow Dash: Dang it! I take 5 to reroll it.
DM: That… also misses, which means you take 5 more damage.
Rainbow Dash: Double dang it! Stupid dice; cheap, lousy plastic–
Pinkie Pie: Hey, Dash! Just use your rage next turn! I'll make sure it hits!
DM: Applejack's turn.
Applejack: Alright, and I'm just close enough to make this work… Ah mark Isabela as mah quarry and charge at her with Marauder's Rush.
DM: You hit, with extra quarry damage.
Applejack: Then Ah follow up with Sohei Flurry.
DM: Isabela uses an interrupt to deflect part of the damage and shift away.
Applejack: What's with that smug look on your face all of a sudden? You got an even bigger trick up your sleeve?
DM: What? No, I'm just deliriously happy to finally be using all these toys.
Usually when the GM starts to smile, there's a good chance someone is about to die or something really bad is about to happen. Especially involving evil amulets and cthulhuian horrors.
Page 1000.
To celebrate, here's a unique poll.
About what page was up when you first came here.
Me:page 49, Rocks fall.
Wow, I was here longer than I remember.
449 was (I think) the current page when I first found the comic and decided to binge read it from the beginning.
464 was the first time I commented on a page (as far as I can remember. I might have said something before that point). I remember nearly having a panic attack since it was also the first time I tried doing a story time and I felt like I was being an idiot for doing so.
Never would have thought that I'd still be here with all of you commenting about colorful ponies playing D&D. Here's to another 1000 pages indeed.
This is one of the reasons that when we played Fate we used the Deck of Fate and a three-card hand, so there was an element of strategy in determining what actions we could allow to fail (since we couldn't draw more cards until the hand was empty). Everyone who played said that they greatly preferred it to total randomness.
Unfortunately, we don't play Fate very much because our group is bad at any system that uses any sort of 'be awesome points' - possibly a holdover from Deadlands in which your awesomeness points are also your XP.
The thing about Fate is that everything is opposed rolls with a spread between -4 and 4, so there's always a chance that a low result can beat an even lower one. In our experience, people with really low cards would sink them into spectacular failures that enlivened the scene but was unlikely to seriously harm the group's chances - there are plenty of opportunities for bad stuff to happen in Fate without the random number generator.
Congratulations, Newbiespud!
I know a lot of Campaign Comics that went on infinite hiatus before reaching 1000 pages mark, so I feel save to say: You are doing a magnificent thing here!
In light of this personally mind-blowing occasion, the precious fourth digit, I've prepared a few remarks.
