DM: Elusive starts his turn by teleporting away to a part of the balcony draped in shadows.
Blueblood: Regretting your choice yet, milady? This power could have been yours! Well, it still would have been mine. But you could have appreciated it from a safe distance!
DM: He fires a corrupted beam. Not at Rarity, however. At Pinkie Pie across the battlefield. OOF! That's a critical. Pinkie Pie gets blasted in the face HARD.
Pinkie Pie: Owie…?
DM: In response to the crit:
Blueblood: Finish them off!
DM: Elusive grants one of his allies a free basic attack. His trick rose also recharged, so he throws another one at Rarity.
Rarity: What an absolutely rude turn! Question: The gas from the trick roses – is it thick?
DM: Blindingly so. And it's poison.
Rarity: Then I'm going to use Sneak's Trick, and pray this works...
It makes sense--when fighting an enemy group, my usual tactics is to make my primary targets the enemy's source of healing and buffs. A bard fits that description almost as good as a cleric.
This is one of those times where in the show I would be asking, "Where the hell is Celestia/Luna/Shining Armor/ANY Royal Guards?" Surely the guards wouldn't just ignore a big ol' punch up with a dude who was trying to overthrow the ruler of the land while also being the leader of the thieves guild. Surely the adventuring party wouldn't be the only ones trying to stop this guy, right?
But Celestia knows about Blueblood, so you would think she would send guards to find/follow the party (The Wonderbolts could fly in from the sky and charging attack Blueblood or grab and drag him skyward for a nice bit of skydiving, which is what I built a Pegasus Monk character around :P).
But then again, what fun is there in making sense?
Imagine if Celestia is a Fatespinner and has been watching the battle from the safety of inside the castle this whole time, subtly nudging the Mane6's luck to ensure they win
(meta explanation: the GM is fudging die rolls for better story drama this combat).
Or 'this is a test.' Or 'Celestia is lazy and is just going to pretend that this is a test.' Or 'Celestia is taking advantage of the confusion to eat the rest of Applejack's treats'.
How about "What a mess. I'll let my unoffical champions handle it, and if Blueblood proves to much for them, I'll flatten his wing of the castle. Or I'll let Luna have him. I'm sure she's craving some action, and it's just about time for her shift to start."
As to the guards, they're probably assigned to containment rather than capture, presumably to protect the civilians from the fray.
Or possibly Celestia thinks the party is perfectly capable of handling the situation and wants to avoid overkill.
Or possibly it fits Celestia's grand plans that the party be the one to take down the thieves, so she can continue to seem blind to them while the party's glory is enhanced, much like swords can be sharpened into better instruments.
this arc he deviated from his usual screencapture format and hired Chris theS to make custom scenes by tracing vectors from other episodes and paste them over backgrounds.
The software I'm using is Affinity Designer, but before that I used Inkscape (and most of the body parts and scenery were created in that). I don't strictly trace entire vectors from other episodes, I take individual body parts and build up a toolkit of pieces that I can then put together however I like. (And then I save the poses I've put together so I can reuse them later).
Inkscape is free and Affinity is cheap, so it's easy to pick up if someone is so inclined.
So. We're now in a post-1000 world. What now?
In case you missed it, I posted a FiD-centric vlog starring my face and called it Story Time! 1000.
