Scrapped lines:
Rarity: Wait, "decades"? What about the night we reformed your sister after a thousand years of loneliness??
Princess Celestia: That one was pretty great... except for the few hours I spent out in exile in space, wondering if my long-odds gamble worked and whether I'd ever see home again. That's the sort of thing that makes a particular night lose a few points, even if you got a sister back at the end of it.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: February 20th.

Yesterday was Valentine's day.
Let's have some in game romance stories.

Came home from work, wife had gotten sushi for us, and chicken nuggets for our daughter.

So in the campaign I'm running, our Ranger is the sort of person who just kinda casually hits on random attractive women (in addition to occasionally going through peoples' stuff and attempting to identify things by licking them). Of course, his Charisma is a whopping 6, so it usually ends in awkwardness. He continued this trend when the party ran into a Drow, who had decided to try negotiating with them after seeing them kill a bugbear king and his pet wolf in about 10 seconds. She turned him down along with the rest of the party's overtures of friendship, but left on fairly good terms even though the Ranger tried rifling through her pockets.

The party ran into her a couple more times over the next several sessions, since she was working for the guy who was sort of masterminding the various groups they were fighting against, and the party continued asking if she wanted to join them. Fast forward to after they had finally tracked down and killed said mastermind, and the Drow finally took them up on their offer as well as agreeing to be the Ranger's girlfriend, mostly because she found it amusing/wanted to see what being a "good guy" was like.

Unbeknownst to all of them so far, she's actually a doppelganger (I think our Monk might be onto her, but I don't think anybody else is). I'm looking forward to when they actually do find out about that.

That is so sad -- I mean you are an awkward guy, and you do tons of stuff for someone -- the person only starts to date you out of pity and they turn out to be a doppleganger... Your setting is too close to the way real life works for the low charisma people.

Not 100% an in game story, but relevant:

I met the woman I love through the online forum based rp of a webcomic we we're both enthusiastic fans of at the time.

One of the "the author of said comic spotted it before we we're officially a couple" aspects of the budding relationship was that my character, and one of her characters, fell almost immediately head over heels for each other, in character, because they were perfect fits for each other.

One of the PCs in my first game was secretly a former bandit that reformed and become a cleric before the game started as part of her backstory. She never seemed quite comfortable around all of the eligible male NPCs, to the point that the other characters teased her about it.

Several months into the campaign (years in real life) the former leader of the cleric's old bandit gang managed to escape from prison. He took the cleric's parents hostage to make her use her new position to help him with his evil plan. The other player characters found out, and staged a daring rescue of the parents. However, they also insisted that their friend turn herself in and get clean with the law.

Due to her reform and guilty plea, the cleric was let off with just a flogging for punishment, but her old boss was executed. At this point, she admitted to her friends that she had had a crush on the deceased gang leader back in the day.

Fast forward a few levels. The party was fighting a foe who could time travel, and found themselves in a mirror universe created by shenanigans in the past. They teamed up with the mirror version of several of the campaign's antagonists, including a heroic version of the gang leader. One thing led to another, the mirror version of the cleric died, and the party figured out a way to bring mirror bandit king back to the main timeline, where he and the cleric were married and lived happily ever after.

The fact that the couple were the survivors of two doomed romances to each other only made it that much sweeter. But very weird. :P

The most powerful necromancer of the kingdom brought my character back to life.

They fell in love and got married.

Too easy.

This was way too easy.

Trollestia fits here just as well as in canon. If NS wants to use her straight, it works. It'll certainly make some screencaps far easier to justify.

Was it?

They went in as a full group against an enemy that had been planning to fight them separately.

They used teamwork and their skills/attacks together to negate the greatest strengths of the leader, while also clearing out and driving off the support squad he brought with him.

They also got rather lucky that Rarity was able to counter Elusive's attempts to take her hostage, that Fluttershy countered his invisibility, and that they dazed/disabled him near the end.

This doesn't look like "Too easy" to me. This looks like a well earned victory that built on the smaller victories of the campaign.

Also, it was pretty cool to read. Especially the support squad being driven off without killing them.

I fully expect those three to at least be mentioned later, in various circumstances. Especially Garrett, who I expect to be found having tea with Fluttershy at some point.

WRT the scrapped lines: Yeah I suppose it would.

In fairness to the 1000 years thing, Celestia got Cadence somewhere in there, though apparently relatively recently.
Classic Steve 15th Feb 2018, 8:00 AM edit delete reply
Celestia doesn't seem to regard Cadence as a sister.

Isn't Cadence Celstia's (possibly great-great-great-...-grand) niece?
Guest 15th Feb 2018, 11:50 AM edit delete reply
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they're actually any more related than any two random ponies would be. "Niece" is just a convenient way to sidestep "oh yes I found this random alicorn in the woods she's a princess now don't worry about it"
Guest 15th Feb 2018, 12:04 PM edit delete reply
Nope. Distant relative of one "Princess Amore", apparently. Probably depends on how 'canon' you rate the graphic novels as, though.
ChrisTheS 15th Feb 2018, 7:38 AM edit delete reply
The best part is that all the collateral damage came BEFORE the battle. So that's just what happens when these ponies go to a party :)

She never begs, she knows how to choose them...

That's a great shot of Celestia in the bottom-left panel there.

While I'm on the topic, I'll just say that I'm glad we're back to the screen caps. Not that the guest art was bad, I just derive more enjoyment from seeing you work within the constraints of the show.

I love this.

Possibly my favorite MLP fan work trope is taking celestic and enhancing her craziness factor.
