Found it interesting during the screencapping phase how Applejack seems to be smiling during a lot of these scenes. Putting aside my own spin on it for a second (and just focusing on the character of Applejack in the show), that could be a subtle detail that she is even denying to herself that things are going wrong, suppressing her negative observations. She laughs more easily throughout the episode, too, I think.

I guess denial is also bliss, alongside ignorance.

Well she was cursed to lie. Even her emotions are false in this episode.

So a less pyretic version of the "This is Fine" meme? That does make sense.
Rastaba 2nd Aug 2018, 1:04 PM edit delete reply
We're all fine, here, now, thank are you?

No idea about this meme you're talking about so just going with what I know. That the above line is classic.

This is what he's referencing. It's often used as a reaction image. Also, the comic gets a bit gory at the end, just to give you fair warning.

Time for to deal with Flutterbutter.
I would tell Ms. Colorful that there is no easy way, but I'd rather have her get an electrifying encounter.

I'm ready for a little frustrated force-cursing if you are!

She's the roleplayer of the group. She'll probably just go along with it.
ZhonLord 4th Aug 2018, 2:52 AM edit delete reply
You'd think so, but Fluttershy's player has just as hard a time being mean as the TV show fluttershy, at least prior to her mastery of the death-glare.
Rainbow Dash 2nd Aug 2018, 6:27 AM edit delete reply
What's a ladder doing here?
Well, I can't go over, but I can always get a sneak peak.
Okay up we goiygfiugyuobiubi.

"Metal ladder+electric hedges= Well, you"
Oh come ogfjhyufyfyugyigj.
"You forgot that the signs also conduct electricity, didn't you?"

Curious to see how Fluttershy goes. In the show Discord's trick didn't work on her, so her had to FORCE her to become Discorded.

I don't think that'd really fly in a good DnD session, forcing a player to change their characters personalities to such an extent despite the fact that they didn't fall into the trap.

My random guess is that what Discord will offer is to fix her character sheet to bring her to proper power level. No tricks, no nothing, here is a sheet you can read it yourself. And when she does not care about it he just... asks her nicely to play along.
Needling Haystacks 2nd Aug 2018, 8:40 AM edit delete reply
That was my prediction a few pages back. Asking nicely does wonders.
Rastaba 2nd Aug 2018, 1:06 PM edit delete reply
She might have already seen through the plan and figures 'might as well go along with it, maybe I can at least minimize the damage'.

Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash?

Well, in the episode, Discord got AJ because living a lie was better than the truth she saw in the "oracular" pond.

It's not surprising she's smiling.

I like how a bunch of the players are having fun here, applejack is enjoying watching Rarity roleplay her curse, and Rarity is getting into it, I wonder if the twist is that everyone is going to have great time despite our fears,

Or discord is going to get faked out and worry about ruining things only for it to be explained by the players having fun and playing along too well, or maybe everyone but Twilight will have fun, leading to the turnaround where she gets into the roleplay for the "curing" of her friends.

once again eager to see where this is going

Another possible outcome along those lines is everyone ends up enjoying themselves, except Twilight. I didn't really think about it till now but for Twilight this has probably been up till this point just sitting at the kitchen table for an hour with not much to do outside of the guard encounter offscreen.

Outside of Shy she is the newest and least experienced to roleplay and tabletop so she doesn't really have the mindset to be dealing with everyone suddenly acting like, to her at least, a bunch of idiots and jerks. In my own experience when I was starting out I was way more confrontational about people playing their characters like assholes and trying to screw over the rest of the party. Like, 'fite me' confrontational, but now I'm older, more mellow and....well, numb to crappy characters at this point.
TyrantViewer 3rd Aug 2018, 6:16 PM edit delete reply
That was what I was thinking when I said "maybe everyone but Twilight will have fun" it would actually be like the canon episode where discord and her friends hung out without her because she was organizing her library and brushed them off-

They all had fun and discord did all he could to remind everyone and reference in jokes, and entertain the rest so they didn't realize Twilight was feeling bat until the end, and she broke out mind altering spells before that because she though discord might have done something to them. It ends with them turning the tables with an in joke on discord and the other realizing how he had been treating twilight- So Twilight learned how to handle her friends having fun without her/ to think twice before brushing off similar events, and Discord was hoisted by his own Petard after claiming it was all to teach twilight a friendship lesson and stopped.

I can see a good ending where this leads everyone to talk more about their playstyles and how it impacts the group, or just be more considerate in the future, the question is whether Discord will get the message or already know, or have to come back and have it kick in like the canon episode with twilight.

I mentioned it a while back, but this adventure reminds me of a naruto campaign comic where the Bell test was the first session and a colaborative lesson of Kakashi's player and the Gm to show not only how the various characters the other's made were flawed, but in how they tried to make OP characters and break the game they were being unfair to the inexperienced GM- Kakashi was the broken character that hammered the Idea home.

The strip got me wondering what it would be like to have a D&D game where the DM pulled each person aside separately, told them they had been replaced by a doppelgänger, and offered them a big xp reward to play along and not let on.

If I remember right next is Fluttershy the one who completely resisted Discords tricks, and was the one who befriended him at the same time. How much of a kick in the head would it be if she played along because 'in character' she doesnt want to see Discord upset about things. I mean they did all this work after all ya know?
Redwings1340 3rd Aug 2018, 7:34 PM edit delete reply
This reaction here is when you should stop being in character and start talking out of character to double check on things. Twilight isn't having fun right now. The others... Probably still are, and if twilight could get out of character information, she might end up figuring out a way to still have fun.

I've seen this too many times though to not see this explosion coming.
