I have to wonder if, due to their nature as places of order and knowledge and organization, not just Golden Oaks but all libraries in Equestria were naturally more resistant to Discord's chaotic magic, making them temporary safe havens. I wonder if that was a factor during Celestia and Luna's conflict against him a thousand years prior.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

I can't help but feel that if this situation happened around me, I'd be like Spike and not notice for a while. Technically it already happened when I finally noticed one of the houses in my neighborhood was... missing, but that's besides the point (for those wondering I don't know the context, I just noticed it was gone one day).
Raven 3rd Nov 2018, 6:14 AM edit delete reply
...Where did it go? Did you ever find out?
Specter 4th Nov 2018, 6:32 PM edit delete reply
No, I can't say that I did. That was some time ago, and since then another house has taken its place.

Speaking as a librarian... thanks for that vote of confidence, Newbiespud!
Newbiespud 3rd Nov 2018, 8:58 AM edit delete reply
In theory, anyway! Maybe it takes a Twilight-level of obsession to make it so in practice.

Libraries in Equestria would be the centers of knowledge. Knowledge is power. Power can bring order. Yeah, I could see libraries in Equestria be the bulwark of defense against chaos.

Edit: Thank you Twi for asking the other players to calm down so that the game can actually progress.
ChaosBringer 3rd Nov 2018, 8:59 AM edit delete reply
Alternatively knowledge can bring inspiration and imagination which themselves are very chaotic.

But inspiration and imagination can lead to inventions that bring order and peace to chaos.

If there's anything I learned from the good Mr. Shorthalt, it's how inspiration is literally OP. And hilarious.

Or, if we apply L-Space theory, libraries contain so much folded space within them that they're out of range of Discord's manipulations.

Maybe a bunch of books are in the wrong shelves. Oh t he horror!

The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read.

Shouldn't part of that equation be matter x c^2? ;)

Yes, but you need the light to read by

Okay, I'm DEFINITELY with Twilight here. Heavy roleplaying isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when you get so absorbed in your own ego that you drag the game to a crawl, then you need to shut up and dial it down a notch or ten.
ThatGuest 3rd Nov 2018, 10:21 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, woof. Just reading the comic it's getting out of hand. By now if I was in Twilight's shoes I'd be shouting. "Oh my god none of you have shut up in the last hour and a half, it sounds like a damn school cafeteria in here!"

I figure it's just Twilight's ambient OCD aura, sinking into the wood itself and mucking up all those chaos energies.

That isn't telekinesis she's using when re-organizing the library. It's her OCD manifesting hard enough to affect the physical world.

I think the DM's giving them a good opening here. Giving Twilight a chance to recap can potentially give her an epiphany. Sadly, it's not just Twi who needs it, and with the roleplay quad messing with her head it's going to be hard.

Discord-DM gave the roleplayers way, way too much leeway, and now the two who are less RP-oriented feel left out, confused, and lost, meaning Twi's not coming up with jack any time soon.
obscurereader 3rd Nov 2018, 11:52 AM edit delete reply
Hm. What kind of epiphany could even help in this situation? It was already made clear to Twilight and co. through Fluttershy that Discord's attacking their friendship, and I'm pretty sure Applejack is just playing along to get the Elements right now... Maybe thinking to ask the DMs if she knows of a way to break the curses would be a good idea? Still not sure if they'd be able to get the Elements or to Discord if the curses were broken now, though...

"not coming up with jack"

Well, Jack's right there. [/pun]

Okay I asked it on the last page but didn't get an answer and knowyourmeme doesn't say anything - so: Is "I'm mean/rude now" a new meme and where did it come from?
Newbiespud 3rd Nov 2018, 10:05 PM edit delete reply
If it is (it most likely isn't in the internet sense, just a fun succinct turn of phrase), then I certainly didn't invoke it intentionally.

Libraries are connected through L-Space. It mitigates a lot of weird effects, because L-Space is weirder than most weird effects.
