Twilight Sparkle: Welp, that surprised no one. So are we done here, or…?
Applejack: Now hold on. <roll> Maybe… with the new ways we're actin', maybe we just need to switch some Elements around? Jus' spitballin' here.
Twilight Sparkle: Wait, you mean… the rightful bearers have been shuffled? I doubt it. I don't see much Generosity or Laughter. Fluttershy's certainly been brutally Honest. Besides that… I don't know, Spike's been with us the whole time. Maybe Loyalty?
Rainbow Dash: Excuse me?!
Spike: What??
Twilight Sparkle: JUST AS AN IDEA!
Spike: Uh, ahaha… Nooooooooo thank you. I've seen that Barbarian in action. If she found out I was impersonating her, she'd probably literally kill me.
Rainbow Dash: He respawns in, like, 24 hours, right? Because familiar?
Spike: Aaanywaay I'm gonna be in the library if you need me. I'll see if there are any other books that can help. Good luck with the chaos god.
Turns out I already used the "new Rainbow Dash" line ages ago. But the followup with Spike worrying "that won't end well" takes on a whole new context with Barbarian Dash, which makes visiting the joke still worth it.
Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: February 20th.
Poor Spike. Barbarian Dash is gonna be all the rage over his little dragon hide. XD
Twi is holding a reasonable discussion here with AJ. This is nice. Worlds better than all the yelling, and opens up the idea of introducing season 3's final episode in screen caps.
It really is nice, also it's no coincidence that once another party member contributed some kind of idea or something into the whole "Kill the chaos god" thing, Twilight calmed down a lot. She was definitely frustrated with the apparent futility of feeling like she was the only one trying to solve the main plot.
If Fluttershy gets Honesty, and Twi and Rainbow are both uncursed and therefore retain their original Elements... Rarity can be either Loyalty (to Tom) or Laughter for how absurd she's been acting. Since Loyalty is already taken by RD that means she gets Laughter and Pinkie and AJ must therefore be Kindness and Generosity.
Hmm...I was going to say Applejack should be Kindness, both because of a fanfic I read and because of the "kind lie" thing, but then I remembered it was an explicit curse in this version. Although no one has really had the chance to be generous here.
Pinkie's certainly been generous with all the military advice she's been dispensing (didn't Rarity literally have a line like that in the show, something about "giving reasonable demands"?).
Not exactly that, but the 401 page commentary has this:
"I would mention that Spike is a magically bound minion that would respawn if sacrificed to the hydra, but somehow I don't think that's crossed any of the players' minds here."
In one DnD game I was in, my weasel familiar ended up being the one with the highest Climb score, so we ended up using him as a scout whenever we encountered trees.
In a pathfinder game, I was playing as a witch whose familiar was an otter. Using it as a scout onboard a ship by swimming over to other vessels and spying was all fine and dandy, but the biggest event was when I couldn't reach our downed barbarian.
This game was odd; we were each given a CL20 artifact at level 1, yadda yadda, and mine happened to basically grant me a number of small boons, but also some lightning skills I otherwise never considered using. I was a debuffer and the like. And being part of the kit, my familiar could deliver spells, but it also gained a copy of it's own to use.
So, amid a pirate raid, this little otter races over to one of the larger orcs rushing on board, and tazes the sucker like a cute version of Emperor palpatine, before rushing over, and slamming a rock on the chest of our barbarian in makeshift CPR.
It was single-handedly one of the strangest moments in our career, to the point we became a travelling brewery known as Lucky Otter while we quested to smite a god's shard.
