Author: Winged Cat
Artist: Digo Dragon

Guest Author's Note: "The Master Cloud Pillar did not start out as a chess program. It may once have been the best friend of a certain Fillyinger, but only in a companion cube sense.

The bigwings will show up soon enough, but in the mean time would anyone care to guess exactly what they are?"

Let's go for the biggest of the bigwigs (and I don't mean Flim&Flam in disguises)

What wigs? There's no need to don elaborate hairpieces.

Wings, though... ;)

Not even asking "why did you bring me into a death game when you knew the losers would die"? I didn't see anything suggesting that it was necessary for them to actually play that game.

I think the distinction is that it's possible to lose without breaking your disk. It seems like something that could be fun if you can protect your back, and I assume that why Gin invited Doc to participate. I also kind of understand, based on Gin's reaction here, why the character might not want to talk about the more lethal elements.

Remember that Gin did give that warning back when taping up Doc. Moreover, there's an implied "or else" from the bigwings - despite the fact that Gin helped build the Cloud for a very different purpose. As in, "bring your guest here where he might die, or else he will die".

Eh, like I said on the last page, it's kind of hard to see Gin's reactions as sincere, plus honestly I feel the "I was forced to bring you there" thing could be stated more clearly. I know most of the jokes in page 3 were supposed to be OOC, but they still take me out of the action a lot since there aren't really any OOC jokes like that on other pages.

EDIT: Also, he said "don't break your disk," not "losing a game will break your disk" or "your disk can be broken by the outside force controlling this whole place," which is very different.

I love the low-key tenderness of the first three panels. Honestly, I think they capture one of the reasons I've always liked the show and world of Friendship is Magic: love and compassion are pretty freely given and unconditional. These two just met, and Doc is all but cradling Gin to comfort him. I just love the sweetness of the gesture, and the expressions on the characters.

Of course I've been conditioned to view this as a shippable moment, but this is just a very empathic moment between virtual strangers. I love how natural this active comforting seems. It's less that it's a remarkable gesture and more that this conveys really well how UNremarkable it would be for ponies to engage in similar behaviors to this one. All I can say is "well done."

Thank you.

Granted, this is also the "new player characters instantly befriend one another" trope. But that's part of why ponies and roleplaying games go together.

For some reason I think Doc looks like Lupin III in that last panel... stuff's about to go down, ponies.

That grin, though you cant really see it often in online grins.

That grin is when you wonder, when you start worrying for whomever or whatever is going get it.

And I love to see it, because the confused look everyone else has, is just icing on the cake.

Gin: "They have a Master Control Thingy!"
Doc: "I have a Really Big Hammer."
