Nothing like getting deep into writing a story arc about estranged siblings and slowly realizing that you're unconsciously exorcising your own unresolved family issues and it's too late to back out now, and trying to figure out how and where to rein it in on the fly. Whoops. Writer's block comes in many forms.

Brilliant touch with the screenshot choice for Panel 3. This is exactly what Shining's talking about: Twilight's so fixated on impending problem that she misses the pleasantries of the guards trying to greet her.

I mean, yeah, the player doesn't see that, but this is weaving through multiple layers of narrative like some kind of metafictional needlepoint project. Suffice to say, I like it.

May I use "metafictional needlepoint"

Oh, absolutely.

So what you're telling me is that Shining Armor is a mentally well balanced person who is aware of his flaws? Impossible!
Digo 4th Jun 2020, 7:06 AM edit delete reply
I knew I wouldn't see that coming!

From personal experience, when you play a well-adjusted PC who knows their limitations and just deals with their issues in healthy ways, you start to question the rest of the party when they get nuts. :3

A bet he multi-classed to rogue at one point because he's about to steal Twilight's Only Sane Man role.

In a campaign I just started, we are in charge of forming a pioneer town to reclaim a previously vacated world.

My character is married with kids, and has been sent to help with the recolonization because she has experience leading a town and raising a populace. My first act was to get a group to go explore the local forest, whereupon another player immediately kills in one turn a forest spirit the moment we encountered him.

I'm just like, one of us is in the wrong campaign.

Sounds like you went from the middle part of "Time Enough for Love" straight into "Princess Mononoke"

"So what you're telling me is that Shining Armor is a mentally well balanced person who is aware of his flaws? Impossible! Inconceivable!"

Fixed. :)

Shining Armor has too many skills, he has to have at least one Rogue level.

A writer's block from trying to "rein it in"???

Don't then! Let it go! Let it go!

As nice as it is to have a positive and welcoming environment, no one actually wants pure, raw, unprocessed, personal emotional baggage in their storytelling. That's for therapists, not readers.

On a separate point: To me, storytelling is as much (if not moreso) a process of problem-solving and refinement as it is a process of executing on inspiration.

Well, I guess there could be said to be a spectrum between raw inspiration-dumping and mechanical piecing-together among artists, or even throughout a single artist's works. You usually do a fine job. Either that our this readership's standards are abysm-NO! NO DWELL ON WORST CASE! BAD JANNARD!

"You too?"

So just what has Twilight's brother been up to?
Jennifer 5th Jun 2020, 4:48 PM edit delete reply
My little brother only really has gaming to distract him at the moment; because I introduced him to gaming, he's been running his campaign ideas by me, getting suggestions and book recommendations. I'm sort of vicariously gaming thru him these days.
