Once again, the funny things that pop up when you adapt the events of episodes far, far out of order... It gives one a pretty solid appreciation for how worldbuilding is exactly that - building. You can't just start at the top without any foundation.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Haven't they already fought Queen Chrysalis by now, thanks to time travel shenanigans?

The initial idea I had was that there'd be a place later on where the IDW comics could fit into the timeline. That didn't end up happening, so I'm afraid those arcs aren't canon to the mainline arcs.

Ah, I see!

The one with Rarity on a farm still fits I think!

Whoops. Accidental metagaming strikes again. But even without it maybe being a changeling, an imposter is still a possibility. However imposter+"beloved" (her DJ request) probably set Twi on the Changeling track.
Could also be some kind of long term mind controlling spell. Or a spell to make Cadance into literal split personalities, then lock the "good" on in the catacombs, like the Tiger Talisman from JCA or any other number of magic items across the multiverse.
Frankly they know SOMETHING is up, but the short timespan and splitting the party to plan the wedding have limited their information gathering abilities. It doesn't hurt that the party members likely to be best at interrogation without making a scene of it (Rarity and Applejack) have some of the MOST work to do and AJ failed a perception check once already. Pinkie's potentially continuing to play her has promise as a way of getting info, but Fluttershy's a little too nervous, Dash isn't super into it, and Twi's not probably worried about whether she's being too meta.

No pony has suggested polymorph magic? I would totally suggest that. Even Alter Self is pretty easy to get a hold of. Should ask Shining if his shield checks for that.

Detecting magic is easier than detecting natural shapeshifters...

Sure you can. It's a type of improv, and it doesn't always work well, but you can try to start at the top with no foundation.

Just...try to have a parachute if you can't quick-build the necessary bits of foundation as they become necessary.

Someone resolve everything by chance thanks to metagaming but can't use those clues to resolve it in the game... Any story like that?

To be completely totally 100% fair, the idea that Twilight would see a problem and immediately go to the library to study old tomes is not at all out of character.

"Your dice test takes 3 hours, nets you two new spells that you can scribe into your spellbook, and what promises to be a fantastic recipe for cheese fondue from the Diaspora era."
Solitary Performance 10th Aug 2020, 1:23 PM edit delete reply
I mean, depending on people's attitudes on fondue from that era, that all could have been in otherwise forbidden tomes of lore, XD

Trying to make world building on the fly will almost always give you a broken economic system that doesn't make sense.

Imagine prices being so out of wack that ordinary people can't afford meals or a place to sleep, so every ordinary person has to be a bandit or thief of some kind, and that's all the PC's encounter.

Oh, wait a sec ... ;-)
