Y'all were half-right about how awkward this was going to get. Just maybe not correct on the reason why.

I'm just as surprised as you at how this is turning out! For all my outlines and general plans, I tend to write as I go and let the characters drive in the end.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Mulligan stories, if you please?

Not sure if "fun" is the right choice, but I was playing in a dnd 5e campaign with friends when we get into a dungeon. Right at the entrance, there's boltholes with buttons close to them (though if they were labeled, none of our group could read the incriptions). Our ranger searches for traps, and comes away finding nothing, but my friend was extremely sure there had to be a trap somewhere. Even if there was no magic around and nothing we could interact with.

I cut the gordian knot, and ask the DM if i could throw a rock at the button. Bam, nat 20... and the button was just the hatch open/close button.

Yet my friend got so angry he initiated pvp over this, but then decided not to because i was the cleric and the only idiot who would try and keep them all alive.

So not my finest moment, but his reaction was priceless

Why would you say it wasn't YOUR finest moment? Concrete information is ideal, but if paralysis is setting in then somebody needs to take action, and yours at least had the level of caution of not being near the button when it activated. If that set off your friend to the point of almost attacking the healer instead of a wave of relief, then unless tensions were running really, really high already, that sounds like it's more on him.

I am write now playing a super hero game and my character is like Batman but almost completely focused on being a detective. When I try to be cool and intimidating in character my social awkwardness happenes and I always need to Milligan the dialogue, multiple times.

The Adventure! RPG from many a year ago has a mechanic where based on your Wits rating, you can actually hand the GM setups for comebacks and one-liners you've prepared ahead of time so they can give you moments like that.

Alright, this is officially my favorite strip.

I'm digging the reference in the strip title.

"When life throws pies atcha, you make yourself a tall, cool glass of piemonade!"

“All right, I've been thinking, when life gives you pie, don't make piemonade! Make life take the pie back! Get crazy! I don't want your stupid pie! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's chef!
Make life mark in a calendar the day it thought it could give Anon Johnson pies! Do you know what I am? I'm the anon whose gonna throw pies to your house down - with these pies!”

My current group hasn't had to take TOO many mulligans. I did have to take time once to explain my character was mad at the warforged, but I was not mad at his player, she just really, really wanted that book he gave to the Deva because his patron said so. She coverts knowledge and books.

Tho we do keep having to talk both the bard and the bard's player out of trying to assassinate a king because she's into his wife (an ancient light dragon who, like the bard, is a shapeshifter). Her player loves to go weird for the relationships.
