I'm liking how this arc has turned out. I'll say now that I didn't 100% intend for this to be such a stark contrast to The Return of Harmony, but as the scripts got written it only made sense for the emphasis to be on checking in and making sure IC and OOC emotions are clearly defined.

No Spudventures this week due to last week being a disaster week, sorry.

Story Time

I think we can all agree, messing with nobles can be fun. Times, when you or your fellow players, messed with said nobles. (Preferably comedic stories, but will take others as well.)

"Can we ease off on the forced and sometimes lazy Story Time prompts going forward? Not on every single page? Just a little bit?"

This.

I'd like to institute a new rule. If you want to make a Story Time prompt, you have to provide the first story.

Very tempting. Might take some time to catch on, but worth trying!

Sounds reasonable. Give the prompt, and an example of one

We as a party had decided to be a traveling circus. The GM was not part of this plan. Neither were two of the players, so we kind of shanghaied them.
Anyway, due to the GM not being on board with us wanting to be a circus, the adventure plans had nothing to do with us basically. Our ringmaster was called before the king, and he decided to take one of our exotic animals, a penguin, as a gift. Hoping to get a command performance maybe.
The king instead ordered him to take our circus on an adventure. Investigate some portal. He was like 'okay, that's weird to ask a circus to do...but you are the king so we'll go.'
Later that night, the ringmaster decided that he really needed that penguin. We just did not have enough exotic animals to spare. So our stealthiest characters sneaked into the castle and stole the penguin back. ...And then we left to go check out the portal like good adventurers.
Portal had some kind of acid spitting dinosaur. Overall too high a challenge for us to face. We managed to capture one for our exotic animal show and escaped. We went back to give our report...but the country was destroyed.
Apparently while we were gone they had declared war on a much more militant neighboring country. Something about a stolen royal penguin.

It is interesting that the players for Cadance and Shining are so cool with the session so far and are like, "yup all part of the plan." Life goals to be that chill. XD

Huh, you know, people have always considered Chrysalis' imprisoning of Twilight a dumb move considering she had her broken and apologizing to her. I always considered that a character trait, she was a petty and had been offended and just had to take direct revenge on Twilight. I never considered that Chrysalis might think Twilight was crying fake tears and was acting, just like her.

A common trait among those who habitually lie, cheat and/or steal is that they tend to assume everyone lies/cheats/steals.

Whether it was intentional or not, the difference here is super telling, and makes me appreciate the Return of Harmony arc even more now. In character conflict is hard to pull off successfully, and without these constant check ins, it can easily become out of character conflict. Even this arc had moments where it threatened to diverge in to OC conflict, like with Twilight's offhand comment about her brother, but since the players took the time to check in whenever things started to trend that way, everything OC has managed to be resolved OC before it became in character. As a result, everyone is collaborating on an in character argument that everyone is finding fun, and this can be some of the best experiences DnD can offer. Just gotta manage it really carefully and keep checking in/making sure its fun for everyone.

The GM and the players have seriously grown a lot as participants. It's kind of a crazy amount of development, really.

You know, I think this really establishes something a lot of D&D and the like players - on either side of the DM board - tend to forget when they get into PvP situations. Specifically, that it should be PC vs PC, rather than P vs P...and this is doing that quite well.

This is a situation every GM dreams of. Super contentious IC and super chill OoC. I've had this happen a few times, and it's the best kind of fun.

Interesting note, editing a comment is automatically the in-page editor, so if you want a title, be sure to do it when you first post, since it can't be added later
