Nothing like a good "Everything's at least slightly better now" montage to start wrapping up a session.

Anyway, we started a new Spudventure! We're taking another stab at the Root TTRPG, which has had a few exciting updates since the last time we've played it! Come listen to us be scheming woodland critters!

My old group would have a little less celebration and a little more "ok so when does the villain come back?" in their minds, but to be fair to them, I often recycle enemies that managed to escape.

They know that rule-- the BBEG ain't dead until you have a body.

Implying that the BBEG's body coming back as an undead horror isn't a legitimate possibility.

Plus, there's always clones.

And now you got them newfangled horcruxes to deal with! Thanks JK, like we didn't have enough trouble trashing the phylactary one time, now we gotta do it like 6 times? BOO

I miss the days when this was the worst thing Joanne did, before she started posting rough drafts of Harry Potter and the Trans Agenda on Twitter. :(

I don't follow any of that stuff, but I mean, you KNOW that there's gotta be gender-switching 'curses' that people use in that universe.

Wizards Gotta get up to some Slaaneshi shit behind closed doors, to say otherwise is to be denying the human condition, but doesn't mean you need to he okay with it.

But yeah Dumbeldore being gay and Harry having erectile dysfunction were awful tidbits added to A formerly wonderful universe just in an attempt to jump onto a bandwagon.

Nothing else.

There is. Polyjuice Potion. Lets you turn into someone else (or into a cat, if you botch it). JKR had no problems with tracking gender during magical transformations...

Big mood there.

Okay, I don't have a defense against clones yet, but my players knew that cremating the body was a sure way to prevent it coming back an an undead creature.

But it doesn't stop ritual-grade spells to return someone to life, or having a soul forcibly possess someone else's body. Really, if you want a character to return in a fantasy setting, there is no way anyone can really stop it

As those who followed Dungeon magazine from the start know, the lack of a body is nowhere near enough to keep someone from coming back. No matter how many times heroes manage to kill the dragon Flame, no matter how completely they destroy his body, he will come back, (sometimes in multiple incarnations at the same time).

Well, they wouldn't be wrong....

I myself have a rule... Only use a baggy once, and kill said bad guy with a random meteor if the players don't.

Redemptions are fine, but not always possible.

It's because I myself loath when a villain, even a minor or comedic one, comes back as a PC... Because now literally everything they do is explicitly my fault for not putting them in the ground the first time, and with no real barrier between my character's thoughts and my own, it's not really great on my IRL mood when something lik this occurs, so I avoid it ever happening when I DM... A villain is either dead, redeemed, or otherwise ceases to be a part of the story completely after their defeat.

Literally, if they get away, no matter how much actual ability to stop them you may or may not of had, everything they do now, everyone they hurt, the blood is in you r hands for not taking care of it...

...or atleast that's what the pain in my heart tells me.

And as every DM runs the games they wish they could PC for, I do not include repeat offenders whenever I can manage it.

It's the main reason I've never ran a Superhero Game, as they sort of require a rogues gallery.
