I went back and forth on going for the full Princess Bride reference (EDIT: especially when a commenter last page straight-up called the shot), but ultimately it was the panels of Rainbow Dash literally hogging the spotlight that kept it in.

New session of Shadowtrot is up! Hoo boy, this campaign is going places.

I have yet, in my 25+ years experience role playing, to find a group that won't quote this scene whenever a wedding event comes up in a session.

It never gets old honestly. :3

I’ll do you one better. When my DM got married, the officiant started the ceremony with the opening line of this quote.

I think I speak for all of us when I say: "I NEED VIDEO PROOF!"

Hmmm...I think the one wedding I remember had no quotes, more "What do you mean we're married." and "Can you really do that?"
...One of the reoccurring villains was the high priest of Bahgtru, Orc God of Stupidity. One time the party woke up all married to the worst matchups. One was married to his stalker... One married to evil twin... The warforged was married to his evil twin too, which was a toaster...

There is never a reason *not* to go Full Princess Bride. And if your readers are able to predict stuff like this, that means you've managed to craft your character's personalities really well. Personally, I'd take it as a compliment.

Shouldn’t it be mare and stallion? That’s like saying “woman and boy.”
Sensei Le Roof 9th Mar 2021, 10:13 AM edit delete reply
For a more direct parallel, shouldn't it be "stallion and mate"? The original quote is "man and wife", after all, not "man and woman".
Guest 9th Mar 2021, 11:30 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, but Equestria is a matriarchal society, so it makes sense to sub in "mare" for "man," and "wife" and "colt" are both one syllable. which is more important for it sounding "correct." Plus in the show we already have things like "Foals' and Fillies' Day" or whatever it was, so they play it pretty loose in canon anyway.

Could always go for a touch of insult... "Nag and Nagged"
DanielLC 9th Mar 2021, 12:19 PM edit delete reply
Wife is Old English for woman. The original quote meant "man and woman". It's just that the meaning of the word changed.

'Wif' or 'wifmann', to be pedantic.

I actually had to do this in one session. The party had split up, part of them went to rescue the groom while me and the bard did everything we could do to buy time. The bard was trying to hold things up outside while I snuck in back and knocked out the priest. I heard someone knocking on the door and in a panic I stripped him, dressed in his robes, and tossed him out the window. The fake groom, a demon trying to get a toe hold on the mortal plane, had sent guards to get me and make sure this marriage went on. So the bard slipped me his phone with the whole speech on it and I faked it. The party burst in right afterwards and the demon went on about how the marriage was binding and it made him king. So I performed a divorce then and there. I divorced his head from his shoulders. I still wonder how he did notice that A; I was carrying a HUGE ****ing greataxe and B; I was a half orc.

Maybe the demon, being from out of town (and out of plane), was unfamiliar with local church customs?
Blake Black 9th Mar 2021, 9:19 PM edit delete reply
Blake Black
I still say that anyone with any lick of smarts would have known that a HALF ORC with an GREATAXE isn't someone who should be doing marriages in a city full of ELVES. I mean I stood out like Deadpool in a purple ***** suit in a nunnery.

Not sure, but I think he failed some checks cause the DM was laughing so hard.

While Rainbow Dash could sing better... Any story when someone decides to just sing something spontaneously?
Winged Cat 9th Mar 2021, 7:57 PM edit delete reply
Winged Cat
I've had characters sing plenty of times - but it always takes me a bit of time to set up the lyrics, so I'm not sure they quite count as "spontaneously".

I wasn't expecting this, but now the idea of anything else seems deeply disappointing.

With Dash being... Dash I would have thought she would have used the Spaceballs 'short-short version'. instead.

"Do you?"
"Do you?"

"Good you married. Kiss her!"
