I'll admit, this is a guilty pleasure gimmick for me. "You're so familiar with your own characters, now try playing your friends' character builds!" Surprisingly, this can result in the team working better together after things go back to normal.

At least, having played as Smolder, Rares already has experience role-playing more brutish characters.

I think Victor and Lander of the "Forgotten Ones" campaign took it a step farther and swapped bodies instead of sheets. XD

As long as the party is okay with this. The GM's made this mistake in the past.

The party did invite some unknown chaotic challenge.

And at this point the players ought to be comfortable speaking up if things go too far.

One way this gimmick can go wrong is when there's a significant skill gap between the players. If a veteran gets his hands on the newbie's sheet and then proceeds to play the build much more effectively than the original player, it can lead to all sorts of resentment and jealousy, as well as judgement of the newbie when he gets his sheet back and doesn't play it as well as the pro.

Twilight very pointedly did *not* read the incomplete spell aloud in character this time. I wonder how their cutie marks got swapped?

That would be Discord showing that he's paying attention
Truthkeeper 19th Jun 2021, 4:17 PM edit delete reply
Doesn't even require that he be paying attention. It's been established that this alternate Ponyville has been charged up with chaos magic ready to blow since they arrived. It could just be that this was always going to happen, because it's exactly the sort of thing Discord would do regardless of what plan the party is working on.

Ironic reversal: Twilight is the only one who hasn't had her mark changed... precisely BECAUSE she read the spell but didn't read it aloud. If she'd read it aloud, everypony within a certain range would have been protected as well.

Dats what I was thinkin' too.

Now that would be clever!

We now need a pic of Rarity with an axe on her butt.

Yep, the walk in each others shoes will often get people to drop old grudges and sympathize a bit more with each others chosen roles. "The support person does nothing" try playing one for a few sessions. Either garners understanding or new massive arguments.

Any oldschool Living Greyhawk players remember Folly?

Does this also make Rarity into Chaotic Evil?
