Fluttershy: Um... so... I'd like to try getting the animals to calm down?
DM: Alright, give me a Nature check. Just your skill, without any Cutie Mark bonus.
Applejack: Thankfully her skill is pretty high on its own...
Fluttershy: <roll> Oh, um... 23.
Pinkie Pie: Ouch! High skill, low roll.
DM: Normally that result is pretty high, but this is a LOT of animals in a frenzy you're trying to calm down. A few of them slow down and pay attention to you, but they don't look ready to let Rainbow Dash go yet.
Fluttershy: Oh no... Is it too hard to do this without my Cutie Mark...? Can I not try again...?
DM: Well, you can't just re-roll a skill check, but if you find a way to change the circumstances significantly, you can make another attempt.
Fluttershy: Oh! Um... How about I feed them, then? Rainbow Dash probably hasn't emptied my pantry, right?
SFX: (NYOOM!)
Rainbow Dash: Depends. What kinda food you got?
Fluttershy: Mixed nuts and salad, mostly.
Rainbow Dash: Yeah, hard pass.
Despite her athletic aspirations, Rainbow Dash still strikes me as a "vegetarian pizza at every opportunity" kind of character.
I can't believe this webcomic is going to turn 10 years old tomorrow. Yes, that's right, this comic got started on July 28th, 2011. And has been updating thrice weekly - almost without fail - for nearly a decade.
I wish I had the energy to make it more of an "event." I've been working all summer (and long before that) on a game project, so I don't have a whole lot of energy for a big shebang. So all I might have is a long, rambly blog post or something tomorrow, I dunno.
I tend to prefer meat pizza, since it’s got plenty of different toppings without having any that I dislike, like onions, peppers, pineapple... Blech... But mushroom and black olive on top of that is good.
Simply amazing. I only started reading the comic either towards the end of the Elusive arc or the beginning of the Discord arc but it's supplied some of the best web entertainment I've read. Happy anniversary. Tomorrow.
Making it 10 years isn't half as impressive as sticking faithfully to your schedule for the whole 10 years. That one might be unique on the whole internet.
Not even close. Girl Genius hasn't missed an update ever in twenty-some years. Ditto Freefall and Sluggy Freelance. Other than scheduled breaks Darths and Droids has held to their schedule. Irregular Webcomic ditto. Rich Morris was updating Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic daily for years until the earlier than expected arrival of child number two knocked everything into a cocked hat. I'm sure there are others.
Girl genius has technically never missed an update, but they have several times put something up other than the Girl Genius comic (for example, a quick character sketch, a merch plug, or a copy of their wedding invitations.). So I wouldn’t say they achieve the same degree of consistency that your other examples do.
Congratulations on the anniversary.
It's quite impressive, both the sheer length, how well you have stuck to the schedule and the quality of the comic itself.
Given RD's demeanor, I'd imagine she had a mostly carnivores diet... Contrary to pretty much the entire Brony fandom, horses can and enjoy eating meat when available... Domesticated horses don't have as much a drive as we've bred them to sustain off if easily acquired and stored grains, but wilder breeds will eat small critters when Conveniant, they even have the appropriate Teeth for it.
It's just a bit of a groaner I, a country bumpkin, have to live with in this fandom... Most people just don't know any better... Like believing Cows and Bulls are separate specie.
Weirdly the same people think goats are male sheep.
Oh and happy 10y anniversary, I've been here since Year three I think, so you know I'm gonna be here with my barely-related, long winded d&d stories for the rest of it too!
Yes, I've argued with people on this before... Most infamously a teacher... You'd think with how rural everyone was, this wouldn't of been an issue... Even as adults, I've had to correct people... Cows and Bulls are the same specie, Roosters and Hens are the same specie, goats and sheep are not the same specie... And I have met people who insist on both the cow and goat things...
It's called sexual dimorphism, and a lot of animals feature it, including humans... It's when males and females of a specie are extremely distinct from one another... Just look at female peacocks compared to males.
It's kind of hard to look at female peacocks, given that there is no such thing. Peacocks are, by definition, male as that is the term for a male peafowl. The females are peahens.
Yeah, I heard the same thing. I think I was wondering if horses could and would eat sushi. Turns out, yes. As a compromise, though, I’ve decided that magical fictitious ponies don’t work the same way. They can apparently vomit, which I’ve heard real horses can’t, so perhaps they’re less capable of eating meat than real horses. While not strictly no meat, in my headcanon, they’ll get sick if they eat too much... And my OC’s parents came from a land called Neighppon, about 1000 years before canon (long story, don’t ask), where they ate sushi (if a relatively low-meat sushi compared to IRL sushi). But then, the land of Neighppon was taken over by griffons and, well... Sushi got a lot more meaty. Unfit for pony consumption, unless said pony was used to hosting carnivorous company. Like, perhaps, Princess Celestia... Just a bit of personal headcanon.
A long lost, ruined pair of pants of mine can assure you... Horses can throw up.
It's also how I learned one was sticking it's head into a chicken coop and eaten dozens of eggs on the daily... Not why it threw up, mind you, it got some unserious horsie bug, possibly from bird feces ON the eggs...
Well given how one horse we had would NOT stay in its pen and we've no damn idea how it got out(dad has even flattened some smol hills it my if been using to jump the fit), ONE of those might be true...
And it was only ever that Brown Motherfucker too... No, that was its name, started as dad cursing at it for getting out, and we started using it for its name as a gag, and it stuck.
Horses were bred to be dumb as shit and easily controlled, but sometimes ya get a real smart one, and lemme tell ha those are the ones you want as a friend rather then a Tool, they got some serious personality, but don't listen for shit...
Wow, never quite realized I stumbled upon this comic so early in its existence. I remember coming upon it from TVTropes right around the time Season 2 started, which I guess would've been around October 2012? This comic was actually what made me aware of the show. And now I've been happily reading for almost 10 years…how time flies!
Congratulations on your anniversary! I don't even know how long I've been reading this, I think I started during A Dog and Pony Show, but the story feels so natural that I couldn't even BEGIN to guess how many years ago that was.
It was actually this comic that got me into My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the first place! I kept coming across what had to be jokes referring to the show, and I wanted to know what I was missing out on. It got me hooked, AND into a bunch of other properties and webcomics - I even made some new friends along the way! So I'd just like to say, thank you, Spud!

Thank you all for sticking with it, regardless.
