Turns out I tear up a bit at this musical number in the episode every time I listen to it. Sure hope my job doesn't require me to watch through this sequence with a fine-toothed comb over and over!

Hey, we played another round of Spudventures this week!

Easily my favorite song of the lot. It helps that we start with the lowest of the low in the previous one, then surge back up.

My favorite song from the show is "Big Brother Best Friend Forever'. I sang a version for my two brothers...and then one got married and I felt conflicted as he was going away, but also felt bad about the alluding to his bride to be being evil. Of course then I found out years later that she was evil (abusive), and now they are divorced. So maybe it was rightly alluded to.

Mine would probably be "You're in My Head" from Perfect Pear, in part because it came out the same week my wife and I renewed our vows.

Make a screencap comic, they'll be fun, they said... 🤣

For what it's worth, Ser Spud? Just seeing panel 5 makes me tear up.

*Hums True True Friend while wiping eyes*

Can confirm. This one still gets me to tear up.

This is my first time commenting, just to agree with what everyone else is saying: This song always make me tear up with joy.

I came into the fandom a bit later--around the time of Season 6 or 7 I think--and missed the controversy of Twilight's transformation, as well as coming in with the expectation of it happening. I think that helped inform my opinion of this episode: namely, that I adore it. I disliked the emphasis on destiny, but loved the emphasis on being who you are, and the music throughout was wonderful.

A True, True Friend is nothing more or less than everything I ever loved about the series, everything the series ever stood for to me, condensed into a single song, uplifting, empowering, inspiring, and filled with hope and love.

And that brings me to a final touch: Thank you, Newbiespud, for this comic. For all the hard work you've dedicated to this, the love and attention you have given to bring these characters to life, for all of it, thank you.

Your comment sums up my own feelings so well! I wish there was an upvote button for comments.

Agreed! And, I think, it's one of the things that has kept this comic going, on both the writer's and readers' sides. There's just something about MLP that keeps you going when you're down, and it's encapsulated in the song.

Spud, you've credited the readership and commenters with supporting you in time of need, but I think the show itself and how your interest in it can drive you to keep on writing week after week has played a role too. There's something of a feedback loop - you tell a story, we respond, you tell more story. Sappy as it is to say it, this show and comic have things to teach us all - and we respond.

The one that always makes me tear up (aside from Smile, Smile, Smile) is the song at the end of this episode, actually! Nicole Oliver's singing voice is amazing, and the ballad Celestia sings is just so...good. You just feel the absolute love and pride Celestia has for Twilight and it's beautiful.

This is one of those songs I have to look up cause I just keep forgetting its existence. ^^; I think my memory just didn't save anything past season 2 for musical numbers.
Jannard 3rd Aug 2021, 7:26 PM edit delete reply
Maybe you weren't that into the series after season 2. Not as in "I don't like it anymore" but as in "I'm not so hooked to it that everything is burned in my memory". I know I wasn't. Although I do remember the song and find it charming (even emotional), everything post season 2 end (save some bits here and there) is kind of a blur.

I think a lot of it was the later songs didn't catch my attention like the early ones did. Smile, Winter Wrap Up, This Day Aria... they were all really good and lived rent free in my head.

It's a catchy song. It's third place for me, close behind Smile and This Day.

*feels nostalgia as a standard action*

Honestly, RD strikes me as the type who watched Looney Tunes on Saturday morning, as I did. No morals in THAT - except don't be Yosemite Sam or Sylvester, and possibly Pepe le Pew. (Today he's persona non grata, but back then...)

No lie, I tear up at this one, too.
