I'm curious about Pinkie's comment that applause freaks her out. I rarely see applause at the table, so my first thought is that stage performance is what makes her nervous.
The Froggy Ninja 26th Oct 2021, 6:21 AM edit delete reply
It says a lot about Pinkie that I didn’t even blink when I initially misread that as applesauce freaking her out.
Philadelphus 26th Oct 2021, 11:37 AM edit delete reply
Ok, glad to know it wasn't just me misreading that.
BackSet 26th Oct 2021, 1:22 PM edit delete reply
I too am glad that it wasn't just me.
A Quiet Reader 26th Oct 2021, 3:58 PM edit delete reply
I thought it said Appleoosa. Although, given that's the one place where Pinkie's performance was completely hated by her audience, it's a strangely appropriate mix-up...

Fourthing the applesauce misread and thinking it in-line with Pinkie Pie.

For me to bow to Rainbow Dash, she needs to be at least 25% more awesome. 😎
Wulfraed 26th Oct 2021, 6:17 PM edit delete reply
Considering Rainbow Dash seldom comes down to ground level, what is bowing going to gain -- other than giving everyone a better view of her unmentionable underside?
Winged Cat 27th Oct 2021, 1:05 PM edit delete reply
Winged Cat
Unmentionable? But you just mentioned it.

In the universe the players inhabit, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic does not exist. That's the premise of this entire comic, after all. But most of the other things we know and love (such as Homestar Runner) do, albeit modified by the lack of MLP:

Magicballs is a serious documentary about the practical applications of Buckminsterfullerene.
Tara Strong is known (barely) for doing the voice of Timmy Turner, but gains widespread fame after appearing in the Batman: The Killing Joke movie.
Lauren Faust is known primarily for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
Nerdy guys make YouTube videos of themselves dressing up as monochrome dragons instead of colorful ponies.
Without the success of MLP to spark interest in female-targeted animation, Avatar: The Last Airbender was never revived with movies and new series, and remains an obscure short-running TV show.
Spirit Untamed: The Movie was never made. Spirit fans never had it so good.
The major animated girl's show background that pervades all of Western culture is Powerpuff Girls, despite it never being much good. It was remade recently as a new, updated television series with a bigger budget, high-tech computerised special effects, and edgy writing. And it sucked.
Throughout the 2010s, all the greatest Hollywood blockbusters were big-budget historical dramas.
Newbiespud exists and is making a screencap comic based on Star Wars.

I miss when the Irregulars used to do those 50 strips. I was waiting for them to get to something like Spartacus or Ben-Hur.
Jennifer 26th Oct 2021, 5:55 PM edit delete reply
They're still doing them. And I think they HAVE done a sword-and-sandal epic.

Ah, here it is:

"The page you are looking for does not exist," sadly.

If we continue with the premise of Newbiespud making screencap comics of Star Wars, presumably similar or along with people making Darths and Droids... Probably that is also 'In a world without Star Wars'. deep does the rabbit hole go? Do we go through every movie to remove it from our new universe, eventually having no movies at all (after one universe where he writes comics off of 'Roundhay Garden Scene', from a largely unpopular medium.)?
Wulfraed 26th Oct 2021, 6:28 PM edit delete reply
Hmmm... Forbidden Planet seems a good fit for MLP in terms of the ever-more-powerful monster to be defeated. What role is Morbius -- Luna/Nightmare Moon? Or... the Creature from the Id fills the Nightmare Moon half, and Morbius fills the Luna role -- and has to "fight his own demons" to defeat the creature (letting Morbius survive the encounter, maybe with an intellect reduction -- hmmm, shades of the Tantabus there).

2001... Twilight ascends -- but it takes the lives of the rest of the Mane 6 (frozen crew of the Discovery) and Spike (drifting in space with a severed air supply)

"In the universe the players inhabit, visual media does not exist. Movies and television were never invented. No one has yet thought of doing plays; roleplaying games are among the closest things they know of. Tolkein is best known for updating Shakespear's writings about how groups of friends might pretend to be bards."

I feel I should point out that Tara Strong was the voice of BUBBLES on the original PPG, so she probably would have been known for THAT instead of "barely" known as the Voice of Timmy Turner.

You also seem to have excised Teen Titans from your theoretical pop culture landscape without explanation...
Prairie Son 27th Oct 2021, 9:15 AM edit delete reply
Tara Strong's filmography is long and deep. The number of things she could be known for is approaching infinite. As Ashi in Samurai Jack or Harley Quinn in Batman Ninja, to name two of the more recent ones (she used the Twilight voice for HQ, btw).
King Marth 27th Oct 2021, 12:53 PM edit delete reply
Teen Titans? Who told you the name of my private campaign?

Alternate joke: I didn't have to delete them. Teen Titans Go did it for me. (The crossover episode of OK KO did land a TakeThat when Raven opened a cross-canon portal to TTG, was about to step through, then caught herself and fixed the logo to the original.)

Alternate serious: It's a joke template and to keep the names recognizable I picked the better-known actress. Alternate renditions are welcome.
Godzfirefly 27th Oct 2021, 10:05 AM edit delete reply
I get that Tara Strong is well known for voicing Twilight, but the idea that someone thinks she wasn't already well known BEFORE that is just Bonkers to me...

There's a fine line to draw here. The parody format isn't entirely truthful - the original started defaulting to "until they appeared in the first Futurama movie" for everyone, whether or not they were included there (though the first, Mark Hamill, actually was in that movie). It's also essential that you immediately recognize the actor's name, in order to land the joke that this person would otherwise be unknown; this definitely works better for actual breakthrough roles, vs industry veterans who happened to get a boost from something popular. The vast majority of my pony knowledge comes from this webcomic, so I'm not particularly well suited to picking someone recognizable from the series. Similarly, I drew a complete blank on what movie wouldn't have existed, so I went for the first horse-themed film I found.

I'd gladly accept an alternate rendition.

Wait, AU Newbiespud is responsible for "Darths and Droids"?

...Hesitant though I am to admit it, I kinda liked the original PPG. Was a kid way back then, though... And as a kid, my interests in TV shows ranged from Hamtaro and Cardcaptor Sakura, to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Monster Rancher and the like (to say nothing of Pokémon), to Samurai Jack, to almost the entire roster of Nick Jr... And Power Rangers and Walker: Texas Ranger, too. I was... A weird kid...
A Quiet Reader 28th Oct 2021, 4:40 AM edit delete reply
Don't be hesitant, it's a wildly popular & beloved show, and for good reason. Saying it "never being much good" is just part of the parody format.
