Guest Authors' Note: "Let it be said, D&D is not primarily about espionage plots. They can be run in D&D, especially with a willing group of players, but if anyone wants to short circuit such a plot, there are ways to try to solve a mystery in a snap.

Triple natural 20s are their own mystery, though."

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

I'm guessing Rarity's comment in the last panel means she, Applejack, and Twilight each rolled a 20 (with Fluttershy admitting to just under 20), and NOT that Rarity herself rolled a triple of 20s. OTOH, Triple-20 IS the highest one can get on a standard dart-board using a single dart (yes, folks -- the bullseye is just 25pts, and the smaller double-bull is 50; but the 20 wedge has much larger area, with a thin outer double-20 [40pts] ring, and a smaller triple-20 [60pts] ring midway up the wedge)

Non-sequitur side comment:
Not being used to that hand-of-bananas mane and tiny-feather-duster tail used for this incarnation of Rainbow Dash made the next-to-last panel somewhat confusing at first. Until I spotted the ear sticking up my impression had RD sticking her rump into the air, with her head down off the table.

You guess correctly.

The Alexandrian blog represents a Three-Clue rule, on the grounds that the party will miss the first clue and misinterpret the second. If you have three, the GM can guarantee - or at least steer the players towards - the necessary revelation.

It worked for Blue.

The most nat-20s I've seen rolled at one time was six, done by my old group while fighting a green dragon. That dragon did not know what hit it.

Most I've seen in a session was 8 back in college. Unfortunately, we were playing TSR's Alternity, which is a roll low game, so a 20 is a Crit Fail. We survived, somehow.
