DM: After completing their self-imposed trial, the Elements of Harmony had briefly returned to Canterlot to fully rest and prepare. There was cause for celebration, but everypony agreed that now was not the time. So the next morning, they returned to the outskirts of Ponyville. And this is where today's session starts.
Twilight Sparkle: Where I'm going down our pre-battle checklist one more time. Everyone's got their necklaces?
DM: Check, check, check, check, and check.
Twilight Sparkle: I've got my big crown thingy?
DM: One big check.
Hearing Buffy Speak from Twilight is rare enough. Hearing it as she's gearing up to face a threat to the world etched it in the fandom's collective consciousness.
I was never happy with the crown thingie. The Elements are supposed to be harmonious, it's in the name and everything; singling one of them out as different doesn't fit with the theme they're trying to establish.
I am right there with you. It also clashed horribly with her overall book nerd aesthetic.
But then, I'm also of the opinion that each of the Mane 6 ought to have had their own Alicornization moments to be able to say together for the apparent _thousands of years_ that alicorns live. And I think it could have given us a lot of very neat storylines and stuff. (Applejack adjusting to having wings and magic, anyone?)
There's a few fanfics where the Mane 6 all get alocornified, and AJ's reaction to it is definitely something that gets attention in the ones that I've read. But yeah, a canonical version would have been great.
Funny, the only one that I can think of ("The Audience") kind of sped through AJ's ascension. Although, she WAS the fifth one (counting Twilight), so they were kind of expecting it.
Actually, there was also "Earth Ponies Are Overpowered" (or something like that), where it's more of a surprise that feels earned.
Agreed. I can understand the non-harmonious bit, though, as, for all that this is a show about friendship, Twilight IS the main character and (to an extent) the others are supporting. But I remember at one point the writers stating that Twilight wouldn't outlive her friends, and yet...
The line, "Congratulations, you're the new Rainbow Dash" has become permanent lexicon in my daily life. I seem to use that line when I can't find something, like say a specific tool to fix something, but I find a substitute that would get the job done. ^^
