Every so often I have to reckon with this, because I grew up on Sailor Moon episodes recorded on old VHS tapes, and that probably explains a lot of why I really liked Friendship is Magic.

All you're really missing are the short skirts and thigh-high boots. And they brought THAT back with Equestria Girls when the characters got pony-up transformation sequences.

With all the magic and fantasy critters in D&D, sailor scout transformation sequences aren't really all that weird. I wonder which scout is the GM's favorite?

I grew up watching Sailor Moon when it aired. Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon were my first animes.

Agreed... ish. I didn't "grow up" watching them as I was out of high school when Sailor Moon first dropped in the US. But I did really enjoy the original ending of the first series of Sailor Moon, they all died. I saw that and was all "NOW THIS IS HOW YOU END A SHOW!" and then was informed it was all 'retconned' as a "fixed with a wish" intro in the second series... le sigh.

I grew up on Robotech*, Voltron, and Tranzor Z as 'my anime', and Thundarr the Barbarian and GI Joe, and The Smurfs, and Hanna-Barbara, Johnny Quest, and...


* By which I include Macross, Southern Cross, MOSPEADIA, //and// Robotech Defenders (which is a comic book I still possess).

Most of the undoing of the Senshi's deaths was at the end of the first season. Usagi's wish when using the crystal was that they could have had a normal time in high school.

Now, this meant that Usagi would have only met Ami, so only they knew each other. It was also undone by the arrival of a couple of alien refugees
