This dilemma probably makes more sense if you've already seen the episode taking center stage right now and you have an idea of what's coming. If you don't, and in fact know nothing about the show... then frankly I'm kind of flattered and humble and grateful that you've read so far into this webcomic.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

No, no, no. Come back here and tell me more about Cady and Shiny's campaign. You cannot just leave a hook open like that without feeling it in. XD
Borg 2nd Jul 2022, 9:22 AM edit delete reply
It's only appropriate that their campaign be one of the other media-as-an-rpg comics on the internet. Figuring out which one is left as an exercise for the reader.

Except that the request implies that the mane 6’s characters EXIST in Shining and Cadence’s game, which strongly implies that they share a setting. I’m confident that it’s actually a reference to the Neigh-Nothing Party shown in the comic book comics in Intermission 11, during which Shining came up with the idea to propose to Cadence in-game (and IRL) at the same time (she was apparently absent from that session), which was setup to the eventual royal wedding plot.

You can learn a bit more by reading the strips on the Neigh-Nothing Party shown in the comic book comics in Intermission 11 (during which Shining came up with the idea to propose to Cadence in-game (and IRL) at the same time, and then invite his sister to their characters’ wedding). Among other tidbits, we learn that apparently Shining Armor is prone to blowing up halves of general stores.

So I watched up-to "Equestria Games" in season four and just never got back into the show to watch the rest of it so I fell just short of the whole Lord Tirek thing. I know about it from reading re caps and stories and so on but never watched it myself. I did go an watch The Movie in theaters but other than that I never watched anything more from the show other than clips of things.

I watched up to the S3 finale, after Hasbro C&Ded Fighting is Magic. I was looking forward to playing a fighting game as Fluttershy…
Buwaro 2nd Jul 2022, 7:28 PM edit delete reply
I don't know if you followed the story, but they did make a game out of it, and Lauren Faust designed the characters. It's called Them's Fightin' Herds.
NobleCuriosity 2nd Jul 2022, 7:55 PM edit delete reply
Brilliant pun in that name. I love it.
Stormy Tinker 3rd Jul 2022, 3:15 AM edit delete reply
Yep! It's different ungulates, but you can *definitely* see the Mane Six personalities in the characters.
Fluttershy is Pom, a timid little lamb... with a small pack of feisty sheepdogs.
Twilight - Oleander, fighting with a magic book. Okay, a demonic book. Only a *little* corruption...
Rarity - Velvet, the prettiest and most stylish reindeer in the land, with ice powers.
Pinkie Pie - Paprika, a VERY affectionate and fluffy alpaca. Deadly hugs!
Applejack - Arizona, a young cow. Basically the same. Lasso and everything.
Rainbow Dash - Tianhuo, a longma dragon/horse thingy.

I lasted until the midseason hiatus of S5. The show felt like it was drifting away from what made seasons 1-4 so enjoyable and tailoring to the sect of the adult fandom that wanted more worldbuilding and breaking away from the main group.
Fan of Most Everything 2nd Jul 2022, 6:59 AM edit delete reply
I'd honestly love it if Shining and Cadence got a bit of world-saving in after the girls tried their best and failed. I may need to keep that idea tucked away for when I can do something with it.

As a reader for a good while now,
I can genuinely say having FiD be my introduction to the Mlp fandom hasn't been anything short of amazing.
In short, thank You, newbiespud!

Another long-time reader who has *zero* knowledge or exposure to MLP outside of this comic. It's been a fascinating ride and I keep reading because it's good! Thanks from me as well!
Sensei Le Roof 2nd Jul 2022, 9:44 AM edit delete reply
Yeah. Aside from this it's just been FiW and CiS in my case.

Much the same here. My exposure is pretty much limited to one of my nieces playing with the toys when she was small, but that was before the cartoons had ever been made, let alone been aired here in Denmark (she is 25 now).

I've watched a handful of episodes, but nothing since well before my son transitioned...and he didn't even watch it all that much when he was pretending to be a girl.

My experience with FiD only comes from this comic, a clip of a segment doing an 'I love Lucy's sketch, and the MLP infinite loops. ( https://www.fimfiction.net/story/98568/mlp-time-loops )

From those, I can infer a _lot_ about the series, while at the same time, not truly knowing the characters. -- I've greatly enjoyed what I've seen by fans of the series, including this comic, which is my visual source of things I've only read about. ^_^

I certainly like to headcanon that Shining Armor and Cadance have their own epic adventures off-screen.

Honestly, I haven't seen a pony show in almost 6 or 7 years. Nothing past season 2. This is the only Pony related comic or anything I maintain because overall, its just a Really good story with interesting characters that bring up a lotta solid issues actual /people/ have when gaming together.
Vera 9th Jul 2022, 8:33 AM edit delete reply
It's about the same for me lmao. I stopped watching FiM around the beginning of Season 3 with the exception of at one point watching the episode where Twilight got her wings. FiD is pretty much the only pony thing, (and only Tabletop-Campaign comic for that matter), I still actively follow. It's just a really solid comic and I think one reason it works well is that Spud doesn't constrain himself to adapting each individual episode in sequence.

While I have watched MLP - which one am I enjoying more right now, a series that has concluded or something still under production and which still delivers good content three times a week, and which has by now (at just under 11 years) had a longer run than the original series (which IIRC went about 9 years)? It's an easy choice. :)
Prairie Son 2nd Jul 2022, 11:51 AM edit delete reply
Nine seasons, so with the vagaries of animation production it's probably amazing that it worked out to exactly 9 years: 10-10-2010 to 10-12-2019.

So, time to be an extra NPC to save the day or/and die horrible.

I stopped watching around season six other than a few of the two-parters, so am unfamiliar with this one. Still enjoying it.

Indeed I have not watched the show.

The show really wasn't my thing, I gave it one season, it had moments, but overall it just wasn't amusing enough to make the cut. A well-written gaming comic on the other hand...

Re:Author Note, I've been reading for a very long while and I only ever watched the first season.

So a lot of this stuff is new to me! I think you handle it very well, and even though FiM fell out of my sphere of interests a while back, your writing is very compelling and the characters are fun and believable.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

Don't think I've commented before but just wanted to say in relation to the author note, I dropped away from the fandom somewhere around season 3, and for 10 years or so this comic has been the only MLP related media I have any interest in, so most of these episodes are completely new to me at this point!
