Little do they know, Pinkie had planned for them to figure that out all along! Just probably not in that specific way.

I honestly have no idea where this is going at this point. But I can't wait to find out.
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 5:09 AM edit delete reply
You know, it's a bit of writing brilliance that Pinkie's adventure is not easily predictable. I do enjoy that detail.
Zuche 5th Dec 2013, 7:21 AM edit delete reply
I also liked that Twilight was at least pondering something in a manner appropriate to her character before AJ took things straight to the metagame. Bonus points for Pinkie talking in all caps in the antepenultimate panel. It's another nice touch.

As for panel choice, Cerberus' expression in that last one is priceless. It almost gives the impression that he's just realized the same thing Twilight has. Incidentally, does anyone else think it looks like she's levitating there?
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 8:24 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, that last panel's "uh oh" look is a great one. I believe Twi was jumping at that moment, but yeah, looks like she's hovering because of her horizontal posture.
Lyntermas 5th Dec 2013, 9:28 AM edit delete reply
This is problematic. The Alt-script Generator functions by predicting the episode timeline, then creating offshoots. But this turn of events has thrown that for a loop, subverting any attempts of prediction. There's probably a Hydra and maaaybe some falling objects, but that's about it. It's almost as if Pinkie Pie was the one writing this...

Oh no. She's gone loose, hasn't she? Batten down the hatches, boys and girls!

Thank you for the explanation, DoubleXXCross. It made me chuckle.

(As an aside, is there any particular reason for your screen name's recent evolution? The addition is well played, but I'm curious to know if there's more to it than that. If if's a nunya question, I apologize for asking and moving to retract.)

UMICROSS! YOU'RE BACK! I thought you were lost forever! Are you okay? Do you need anything? Food, kittens, a new username? Here, I've got a new username all ready for you!

Oh, is it not normally typed with the XXs on here? I forgot.

I have two versions of this web-name (one with the XXs for usernames, and one without) and I must have mixed them up. Pardon.

Uh… I don't think I want to take on a XXX variant…

Poll time:
I've heard you like polls, so here's a poll about polls.
What is your favorite type of polls. Funny/Silly
Random (not the same the thing as funny)
Slice of Life (Small info about your life)
Little bit of all
None of all
Other (please explain)
Me: Little bit of all
P.S. I will be counting

But wait, what's this?
Time to be the critics of FiD
It has to be in the Good-Bad-Good order.
Let's get honest answers here.
FLZ 5th Dec 2013, 5:28 AM edit delete reply
None polls. None polls. Of those options, none.

I like when people just comment on the comic or at the very least the Author's Notes! Yes, this reply should probably stop and take a look at itself, being, of course, about another unrelated thing. But, hypocrisy aside, I sort of like the idea of seeing what people think about the comic/ponies/dragons without having to work out how best to scroll past polls.

My answer to the poll is that I don't like answers to polls. Don't look too far into that.
Zuche 5th Dec 2013, 6:28 AM edit delete reply
I seem to recall discussion recommending that the polls should focus on either: a) ponies as they are represented within the show, b) the players of said ponies as they are represented in the comic, c)tabletop gaming, or d) Newbiespud's suggested topic for the day.
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 6:53 AM edit delete reply
I pick C... no wait, A... maybe B... I can't decide!
Destrustor 5th Dec 2013, 9:34 AM edit delete reply
Also, having a poll on absolutely every single page is not critical to the enjoyment of this comic.

Rarity makes quality, and I'm not talking about the pony here...
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 10:25 AM edit delete reply
I thought the point of "here" was to talk about ponies? ;)
Bombom13 6th Dec 2013, 10:34 PM edit delete reply
To be fair, she does too.
DoubleXXCross 5th Dec 2013, 1:29 PM edit delete reply
To be honest, I'd prefer if you worked with Fuzzy on these things before posting them up. I don't get the feeling that he's very enthusiastic about them and I'm not sure how many other people are either. The forum example of what you're doing would be starting a new topic after a few posts in an existing topic. It's not really on.
Raxon 5th Dec 2013, 2:12 PM edit delete reply
ANW, you need to register and get an avatar.

I have taken the liberty of picking one out for you.
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 6:23 PM edit delete reply
Um... did you have a train of thought for this pick?
Raxon 5th Dec 2013, 6:38 PM edit delete reply
It was a bullet train. I didn't get a good look at it before it was gone, though.

ANW is a poll dancer.
aylatrigger 5th Dec 2013, 5:04 PM edit delete reply
none, but gaming related if any...

Good: D&D and Ponies, 'nuff said
Bad: I would have done Pathfinder or 3.5e... not that I hate 4e, as I've played enough good games in it to like it, I just think the abilities shown suit 3.5 or pathfinder better. In that Pinkie Pie is a PERFECT bard, but in 4e I have trouble finding abilities that fit what she does... This is similar for the other characters but not as severe.
Good: Newbiespud does an amazing job, both story wise and execution.
Malroth 5th Dec 2013, 5:17 PM edit delete reply
Favorite type of Poll

About a gaming concept relevant to the script or the topic of the day

Least favorite type of poll
polls that have nothing to do with tabletop gaming, the topic of the day or the happenings of the comic
Bombom13 6th Dec 2013, 10:33 PM edit delete reply
My favorite type of poll is the ones that aren't here. I am sorry, but these poll are really starting to get annoying. I fear they are starting to drive out the best part of the comments: the personal silly stories about campaigns. You even seem to be almost smothering Raxon. I haven't seen him do a long post ina while. I may just have missed this, though.

Here's a storytime idea: Hint dropping, both subtle and overt.

The first DM of our Shadow Walkers campaign sometimes had to give me a little...extra push to figure things out. Some examples:

DM: The study has a fireplace, a desk and several bookcases. The enemy spies have seemed to have looked everywhere, but couldn't find the hidden documents. The chair to the desk has been knocked aside.
Me: ...I examine the fireplace.
DM: ...Let's try that again. The study has a fireplace, a desk and several bookcases. The enemy spies have seemed to have looked everywhere, but couldn't find the hidden documents. The chair to the desk has been knocked aside.
Me: Oh, I'll examine the chair.

DM: The gang members stop beating up the cop to look at you. They say that if you want them to take you to their boss, you have to prove how tough you are.
*Fighter and persuaders pass*
Me: Well, my character's the tinkerer, I don't know if I have anything to impress him.
DM: ...Who are the gang guys beating up?
Me: Oh, right, my character's been framed for murder. I'll have the cop tell these guys who I am and I'm set.
DM: *facepalm*

The second DM for the campaign hinted more for confirming ideas.

DM: Your wilderness guide *should* be at this bar, but she hasn't shown up.
Me: Wait, she's not stuck in that ice maze the Laughter player conjured up, is she?
DM: ...cough.

Old AD&D 2e campaign. A player wanted to sense the motive of an NPC to tell if the info he was giving the party is true or not. Skills being pretty megar in that system, I simply said to roll a d20 and add a bonus based on his CHA score.

He rolled a nat 20.

I quickly sketched an image and showed it to the player, stating "Imagine you see this over the NPC". The sketch was of the BBEG pointing down and shouting "He's LYING!!"

It was such a hilarious moment of obvious hinting that it became a staple for quite a few campaigns thereafter.
guest 5th Dec 2013, 12:37 PM edit delete reply
so it had the statment "He's LYING!!" in it, but it was said by the big bad, so does that make it true, or false?
Digo 5th Dec 2013, 1:19 PM edit delete reply
True, as the PCs knew the BBEG well enough that he's generally honest about what he says (He was a Jean Valjean type of villain).

"Are you guys talking about killing BM?"

"Ummm, no?"

"That's good, cause you guys are my friends, but BM is my best friend, and I can kill anything that bleeds. Hint hint."

"Well, it's a good thing we're all friends here."

"Big time."

Subtle: It was the 1950's, Cold War, in Cleveland. WWII had ended with help from one of the newest weapons- magical girls (sometimes boys as well). A gruff and resentful homeless veteran half-dragon (PC 1) is approached by a military officer, who is looking for a particular Commie traitor. While annoyed to the point of almost being considered a Commie, he is passed by after a few questions. Later on he is approached by young part dragon girl (GMPC/NPC) who calls him daddy. She says she is the daughter of the Russian shapeshifter spy he had a fling with, and was a little trained by her mother, but abandoned. He was suspicious, but let her follow him. After getting together with the rest of the party, a illtrained-on-morals magical boy and a mercenary from the future with forcefield powers and a sentient computer, they are attacked by a magical boy who is trying to 'get back' the part dragon girl. Eventually the merc had a DNA test done on the girl...and then we stopped the game...But the player did ask me what the DNA test would reveal, and I told him truthfully it would reveal she is his daughter (as I made it so she could hack sentient computers with her mind...which is perfectly legit in BESM...) I tried to purposefully make it subtle, as I had created a character with the same point cost as the PCs, but with practically everything going to infiltration tactics. While we hadn't gone far enough to reveal it, she was a spy/thief/magical girl meant to get into a facility where a Q-Bomb ala the Mouse that Roared was, but had run away as she didn't want to start WWIII. And then found someone seemingly strong, mind read him, and then pretended to be his daughter.

Overt: "Deus Machi, god of Plot Convenience, comes down and hands you a map that has a large 'X' on it and a not saying 'GO HERE'."

Speaking of metagame (courtesy of AJ's comment in panel 3), Twi seems to have forgotten to take one of her feats. She's level 7 and only has four. She should have the following:

Level 1: Ritual Caster (bonus feat)
Level 1: Choice of one feat
Level 2: Choice of one feat
Level 4: Choice of one feat
Level 6: Choice of one feat

That's a total of five.

Also, for the supposed power-gamer at the table, I'm disappointed in Dash. She seems to have some odd and sub-optimal mix of Thunderborn Wrath and Whirling Slayer feats and powers. To me, it seemed like she would be a shoo-in for a Dex-secondary Rageblood, since charging all the time would be right up her alley.
Newbiespud 6th Dec 2013, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
Gah, somehow I missed that one when I was creating the character images. It should be Jack of All Trades. I will amend that at my earliest convenience.

Just between you and me, optimization was never the goal when designing the Mane Six in-system. Besides, did you really think I would pass up an ability called Thunder Hooves Rage for a pony barbarian with a lightning cloud cutie mark??
D'sparil 8th Dec 2013, 9:36 PM edit delete reply
Nah, I didn't think it was your primary goal. Just the fact that Rainbow's player was touted as a "roll player"/power gamer made me think it was odd. Also, I have no problem with Thunder Hooves Rage. It's a close call between it and Swift Panther Rage, but it's quite possibly the best level 1 rage.
T_T 5th Dec 2013, 7:36 PM Face edit delete reply
okay, Twilight obviously doesn't know greek mythology because Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are clearly pegasi, and for those of you who don't think that Twi would know that at least Rainbow Dash is a pegasus, Dashie introduces herself like this:"I'm Rainbow Dash, and I'm a barbarian pegasus."
MumaKirby 5th Dec 2013, 10:45 PM edit delete reply

Newbiespud 6th Dec 2013, 11:44 PM edit delete reply
I sort of see where you're coming from with the shared mythological source, but having Special Guest Cerberus as The Guard Dog of Tartarus out of nowhere kind of raises some questions compared to having pegasi as a built-in part of the setting.
