It's a busy, busy, busy week in this conglomerate of hobbies we call Newbiespud. I completed my fourth Let's Play, this comic arc's wrapping up, and the podcast marches on.

Fallout is Dragons took much longer to edit than anticipated. We've got the 20.75 session today, and we'll hopefully have 21 first thing tomorrow. On the other hand, I've started putting together a little wiki (via Obsidian Portal) for the campaign to help everyone keep track of information, so that should be up and running in a couple of days.
Session 20.75: Libsyn YouTube

I'm quite tired going into this weekend, with plenty of work to look forward to. At this point, I'm considering taking a quick break (no more than two weeks) from the comic to recuperate. But I've always been big on keeping content running here, and it's too late to ask for guest comics with one week left, so I'm still in the considering phase.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Gotta love when the traditionally negative has positive connotations in the eyes of a player... Although that's pretty common in the roleplaying table, and usually expected by both players and DM. However...

Story time! Tell a story about a player being actually excited about something the DM planned to be suspicious (in a bad way), or horrific, or awful or deadly. With almost 500 pages in, I really hope I'm not repeating a ST topic...

I'm pretty sure Rarity was being sarcastic. Look at the face again and read it as nervous for her first bubble and sarcastic for the second.
Jannard 30th Aug 2014, 7:00 AM edit delete reply
Quite likely. But I took the liberty to interpret that a note passed through a locked door may be the exact thing she would expect to receive from the guild, meaning the guild noticed her, which was her intention. Plus, the expression could very well indicate relief too.

Traditionally bad news to good news?

Not mine, but it fits.
Jannard 30th Aug 2014, 10:53 AM edit delete reply
Woah, that's a whole story made out of that.

I actually found this old story of mine this morning. The party was fighting a blue dragon and his band of hell hounds and kobolds. My cleric had insulted the dragon quite effectively so the dragon has been trying to kill me first. My quick thinking (and some luck) meant that by round 6 I had taken NO damage from this blue dragon. However, the dragon hadn't gotten into melee with me and I been trying to goad him to do just that. Finally the GM gave in and the dragon closed in to grapple.

I squee'd with glee. The GM wondered why as the dragon's grapple check was huge and I could never beat him. I explained why~ I had a spell ready that deals automatic fire damage when I'm grappled. No save. XD

I nearly killed a dragon that was meant for a party four levels higher then us and most of that damage was from my shenanigans. :3

By the Way, Newbie, you're one of the most consistent and responsible authors I have the pleasure of following, so I think your fans will take no grudge in your taking a break from the comic.

I wouldn't mind the opposite either, obviously :P I have a history of needing to keep a schedule to avoid the looming threat of losing my motivation and abandoning a project. So whatever your reasons, hope you do what feels best.
Mykin 30th Aug 2014, 7:38 AM edit delete reply
I second what Jannard said. I have no issue with you taking a break if it helps you out in the long run. Last thing I need to hear is that your overworked yourself to death; No need to run yourself into the ground or anything like that.

Thirded. I love this comic, but if you need a break, take it.
Kaze Koichi 31st Aug 2014, 8:04 PM edit delete reply
I say you rest.

(I will jamming a few things into one, and don't worry, I will keep it compact.)

... I know that the book thing Fluttershy is reading IS a thing for spa treatment or something (after sticking my face a 1/2 inch from my laptop), but from a distance, it looks suspiciously like her cutie mark.

Video! (Edit: Dumb tab button)
Even after a life and death scenario (or one you thought it would become), you still have to the problems, rewards, and acts of others.

It seems like this "session" would be a lot shorter IRL than some of the other ones, especially without any actual combat included. While I understand the concept of story arc, it just feels like this would've been a short night.

Even so, still an awesome project from an awesome person.

If you need time off, go ahead and take it.

Do whatever you have to, man. Don't push yourself farther then you have to.

What games have you been doing a 'Let's Play' on?
Newbiespud 31st Aug 2014, 5:14 PM edit delete reply
Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (though that's more of an annotation LP), Dead Space 3, and Binary Domain.
Raxon 31st Aug 2014, 7:33 PM edit delete reply
Would you be interested in taking a request for your next LP from one of your favorite commenters?

When you have a free slot, that is.
Newbiespud 1st Sep 2014, 3:28 AM edit delete reply
Maybe. Depends on the game, naturally. (I tend to feel very strongly about the craft of Let's Play, strangely enough, and what makes a good subject for it.)
Digo 1st Sep 2014, 8:37 AM edit delete reply
I'd actually be interested in hearing those feels. I was thinking of doing one since there are lots of games I never played and I got a few waiting to be touched.

What would you say to a favorite game of mine?

It's called Star Control 2: The Ur Quan Masters.

Alternatively, there is an obscure little game you probably never heard of called Gotcha Force. It was a GCN game by capcom. It has a small, but devoted cult fanbase. It happens to be my favorite game of all time. You can play as cowboys, ninjas, henshin heroes, pop idols, even ICBMs and even a battleship.

Did I mention the demon samurai who has lightsabers that absorb the souls of the dead to grow bigger, and a knight who needs to cut enemies with his swords constantly, or he weakens to the brink of death. I am not exaggerating any of this. It is a a third person fighting game. The controls for each character are a little different. Oh, and it has giant transforming mechas and the dragonzord is one of them. I'm partial to cybergirl, cyber ninja, and antares, though accelerarion ninja is good, too.

Be warned that you can get some major laughs out of it, due to the ridiculously silly voice acting.

Star Control 2 is kinda hard, by the way. It's hardest when you're starting out. There is one thing you will learn to fear.

and uqm is even packaged for Linux ...

I strongly suggest getting some practice in the simulator for realistic battle between your escorts and your enemies of the moment.
Raxon 1st Sep 2014, 8:52 PM edit delete reply
Yes, and available free online.

But seriously, Spud. Also get Gotcha Force. If you like action games, fighting robots, pokemon, or cheesy B movies, you will love Gotcha Force.

Seriously. The gameplay is fantastic. The graphics are colorful and simplistic, and the voice acting is hilarious. But that's not what you play it for. So much replay value. Gotta collect them all.

Also, one of your enemies in the game pits a flying fortress against you. Said flying fortress has lasers, but its main advantage is several drones that launch off and harass you.

Have I mentioned the ability to play as a jet that transforms into a fighting robot?

While I also love the heck out of Ur-Quan Masters, I feel the need to point out that it's a really, really big game and it's not going to hold your hand all that much after the tutorial (It was originally released back in 1992 when companies weren't afraid to let their players fail a whole lot). I'm not trying to say that it's unfair or anything, it's just that it won't guide you from point A to point B and I found out the hard way that there's a time limit to saving the galaxy from complete and total destruction as I wandered aimlessly around the galaxy. Still, if your ok with that, then its a game with a fantastic story with interesting races and villains who are honestly more interesting and complex than the bad guys we seem to keep getting nowadays.

...But to repeat o11c, you'll definitely want to practice with the free battle mode against some AI first. While there is the option to just have both ships be controlled by the AI when you get into those battles, I'm on the fence as to how useful that option actually is in the long run. Mostly because the AI tends to be...stupid at times.

So besides Ur-Quan Masters, I guess if we're throwing out games that we think Spud would enjoy and that would make for some good LP's still a free version of Cave Story around if you don't feel like paying for the Cave Story+ edition. Primordia is a good one too if your into point and click adventure games....And that's about it without digging too much into the realm of games I feel like I'm the only one that enjoys/I don't feel would make for an interesting LP.

Actually, I remember finding a reasonably simple way of fighting them off, but I won't spoil it.

Starcontrol 2 Helpful hint, Abuse the practice mode to find some ship with which you are capable of beating fleets of 20 Impossible mode AI enemies of every ship type with out getting hit then try the storymode campaign. Mine was the Thraddish Torch, But the Spathi Eluder is also a great ship to get good at and is avalible subtantially earlier in the plot.

Those didn't scare me. What scared me was a VUX battleship starting combat at point-blank against me with it's Gigawatt laser up my tailpipe! D:
