I'm considering, just considering, trying to get some designs for merchandise going for things like t-shirts and whatnot through services like Spreadshirt or Zazzle. Being not an artist but knowing a lot of artists through all this work, it's an avenue I'm looking at carefully and with the intention to involve partners who can make designs. And here's where I feel out for anyone who might be interested in that/might have any ideas for what would make good products in this vein.

The next Mawlers Take Manehattan episode should be up today!
Session 2 - Wrecking Crew: Libsyn YouTube

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Good luck with da merch, though I suspect anyone capable of producing anything worth selling will be too busy making their own stuff. I hope I'm wrong, though.

You're down for the count. You and your teammates know you are not going to make it.
The villian goes to make the final strike.
You use the last bit of your strength and take careful aim.
You just took him down with you.
Has that ever happened to you guys?
Specter 27th Jun 2015, 8:19 AM edit delete reply
No, but that's usually because the bad guy isn't looking at me, and is trying to strike down someone in the group who matters, and I grab them and we both go sailing off a really high place.
Winged Cat 27th Jun 2015, 10:32 AM edit delete reply
It has, once, only not so much "careful aim". Generic space marines setting, storming an evil queen's fortress. My character - a cyborg with a fusion reactor - was literally disarmed as we slogged through. When we reached the queen, he was bleeding out and the reactor was about to go supercritical. So he charges. Scenario-winning heroic sacrifice, in a one-shot where the GM had expected to off more than one PC.
Digo 27th Jun 2015, 11:15 AM edit delete reply
Nope, cause as the only earth pony in a group of pegasi I was not with them during the fight. And thanks to an NPC getting three critical hits in a row, I was wasted.

...but I got better. :D

By far the best "Take you with me" story goes to my brother-- back when he gamed, he was involved in a World of Darkness campaign as a bumbling mage apprentice who sometimes could light a candle if you give him a match. The team (made up of vampires, mages, and werewolves working together versus their version of "The Executive") was infiltrating an office building to get some data about the villain's next move. They got it, but ran into a group of vampires when my bro accidently botched a stealth roll on the way out. The team made a daring escape and my brother stayed behind to give his team a head start because the vampires were faster. My brother challenged them all to a "One-on-Five" and the vampires were so amused that they let my brother go first.

M brother flips over his character sheet. Turns out he wasn't the apprentice, but the master disguised as his long death apprentice, killed by this very vampire clan. What happened next was my brother setting off a massive explosion with a wild surge of magic that killed him, but also took out the vampires in one blast. And the office. And set off the fire alarm.

It was pretty cool to watch and was the greatest "Taking you with me" story I've seen.

Maybe... Sort of... Not exactly... But I ddi manage to take a villian with me.
It was a post-WWII setting, and I was playing a SOE agent with a grudge on a certain SS-mann. During the campaign finale, we were chaising him escaping along the cliffs of Dover, and both cars crushed(Killing 3 NPC's including a friendly one). While the rest of the party was shooting down the minions, I engaged in a fistfight with my personal enemy. In the end, he got the upper hand, and took me as a hostage, thretening to shoot me with my own gun. I smashed his face with the back of my head, used the moment of sidtraction to disarm him, grabbed him, yelled something along the lines of "We go together" and jumped off the cliff... Falling damage was never calculated though.

I had something CLOSE happen to my group. Six Words: Return To The Tomb Of Horrors.

And if you think the first one was nasty, hoo boy....

By the time we got to Azerack, I had been turned to a balor, our wood elf thief--who hasn't been sane in a long-ass time--was transformed to a vampire, THEN turned to a Dao, a dark elf died and turned into a sentient zombie due to all the negative energy, and we didn't place the proper failsafes before releasing the King of all Balors from his imprisonment, which meant that Azerack still had control of him.

My character got decapped and falling down a pit underneath this sphere of souls (thankfully I had a ring of regeneration on, so it'd just take me a while to recoup, but I was essentially out of combat. That demilich was turning mincemeat of our party, though everybody got lucky when he used its death wail, with only the KoaB critically failing the roll and dying on the spot).

Our Dwarven fighter made a wisdom roll, and realized this one solar rod we collected and charged earlier was the key to the sphere of souls and used it, freeing all of the souls, putting a damper on Azerack's asention plans, and caused the demiplane to essentially start collapsing.
Our elven ranger made a wish on our now-Dao teammate to send us home. Dao, unfortunately, have this tendency to screw wishes over even when they don't want to.

So yes, we returned to the prime material plane, only 10 years into the future, my time as a Balor over, but still got demons trying to summon mefor whatever reason (AND given the crown as the new KoaB because, as the saying goes, two people go in, only one comes out). the former elf is STILL crazy, but with much more power at his fingertips, our elven ranger has to track down her husband (another member of our party that stayed behind) and their three children only to find out she's pregnant AGAIN and has to worry what the effect of all that negative energy will have on her new set of twins....

Oh! And of course there's a P.O.ed demilich who has nothing but time on his hands as he reforms and rebuilds his base of strength. Considering that several of our team are deified or otherwise ageless, we're going to have issues with him in another, oh, 300-500 years.

The now-sadly-out-of-print game, TORG, actually had mechanics that allowed for this specific contingency.

During play, the players would accumulate hands full of cards from the action deck. Most of these were generic or targeted bonuses or re-rolls. Some, however, were Subplot Cards. These, when played, would entangle your character in additional complications in the story, but in exchange, gave the PC in question additional Possibility Energy (a cross between XP and Action Points, really).

Most of these were played once, would affect the rest of the adventure, then move on. For instance, if you dropped the Romance card while meeting with the Barbarian Queen, you might catch the BQ's eye--and thus, draw a challenge from the War-chief, who is her number one suitor in the tribe. Any scene that you have to deal with this, you got extra Possibility.

One card, however, was the Martyr card. You lay it down, and your character is immediately presumed to be dead by the end of the adventure. He gets Possibility Energy for each scene going forward, but if he doesn't die, he has to return it all.

However, during play, at any point, you can declare that THIS roll succeeds, no matter what, and in to the fullest extent possible. However, your character will die (or at least be removed from play) as a consequence of whatever action you are taking.

There was one campaign I played where I was burning through a character each adventure. I loved it.

stabbed the evil wizard in the nuts with a trick blade in boot thing once.

and the cleric got to me in time to keep me from bleeding to death and pulled the sword from my gut.

Worst comes to worst, you could at least put the logo on a t-shirt.
Specter 27th Jun 2015, 8:17 AM edit delete reply
I really do hope you make some merchandise, cause I would absolutely love to wear a t-shirt or hat or something with one of the many quotes expressed in your comic or game, simply because it's not only original, but also because it is actually very true.

Plus, simply because many of it would be made around what happened in an RPG, it would already be 200% better then anything a big company could make.
Sani2341 28th Jun 2015, 1:00 PM edit delete reply
Well I would like to be able to by the "T-shirt quotable" shirt that was joked about in one of the Fallout is dragons sessions
River Road 27th Jun 2015, 10:00 AM edit delete reply
We definitely need a shirt with Dragonshy.

"Weapons? Armor? Plans?
I got 15 Intimidate"

"Intimidate the Dragon?
Intimidate the DM"

That could work. Neither WotC or Hasbro seems inclined to bring down the lawsuit hammer on free advertising, and such a shirt definitely has some appeal.
Digo 27th Jun 2015, 11:07 AM edit delete reply
Merch based off some of your Fallout is Dragons NPCs? You're mixing ponies, Fallout, and RPGs. Seems like a category that reaches out across a spectrum. :D
Masterweaver 27th Jun 2015, 1:50 PM edit delete reply
There... could be issues with Fallout is Dragons merch. We might all talk about it later...
Azureink 27th Jun 2015, 11:16 AM edit delete reply
Just be very careful about what you have on the shirt. If it is close enough to MLP property, you might get sued by Hasbro.
Newbiespud 27th Jun 2015, 3:20 PM edit delete reply
Of course. That's been on the front of my mind every time this option has been considered. I'm actually mildly annoyed that you thought I needed to be told that.
Evilbob 27th Jun 2015, 10:48 PM edit delete reply
'Slong as you go through Welovefine or only sell your merch at ponycons (tons of artists seem to be doing fine with that), you should be fine.

I'm not that great with drawing art, but making a few vectors for T-shirts doesn't seem so challenging. Skype me if you want. I believe we have a mutual Skype contact via Mykin.

I'm t-shirt quoteable!
daftdeafdave 28th Jun 2015, 4:17 AM edit delete reply
Just thinking that. I'd sketch a design but I can't remember who said it.
Newbiespud 28th Jun 2015, 12:41 PM edit delete reply
Actually, it was me, but I said, "Sorry, I'm not exactly t-shirt quotable." Instant irony there. The reverse works better, though.
frostedWarlock 27th Jun 2015, 4:07 PM edit delete reply
Here's a T-shirt concept I sketched up.
daftdeafdave 28th Jun 2015, 4:19 AM edit delete reply
No love for the d10? Nice design though.
frostedWarlock 28th Jun 2015, 7:27 PM edit delete reply
D10 looks too much like D8 for the design of the shirt. Also, I prefer the progression of 2 4 6 8 12 20 than 4 6 8 10 12 20
daftdeafdave 30th Jun 2015, 12:50 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, I do prefer the look of the d2 to a d10 in the same place. It's just less traditional. Any rationale behind not making the element of magic the d20?

Todays episode was good look for my review Tuesday. Also it appears that the next episode will air on the 4th of july.

Anyway I think merchandise would be cool but like everyone is saying watch out for legal issues

I'm patiently waiting for them to make an, April fool episode, the way Steven Universe did. There was some grade A butthurt over that episode.

D'aww, very sweet. As noted above, you may want to edit your post to include the image as a link instead, or a small version of the image, to stop the stretching of the page. Still though, I like it! You might wanna submit it to the Dragon Mawlers Tumblr. :)
