Limericks and I have an interesting relationship. They're not usually considered classy poetry, and I haven't been particularly fond of poetry in general since middle school. But I've recently come to like limericks in particular, and I don't quite know why.

Regardless... Music, poetry, games; as long as it makes someone smile, it works for Pinkie Pie.

Any particular rhythm we should consider for this limerick?
InvisibleDale 29th Dec 2011, 5:52 AM edit delete reply
1st line = 4 beats,
2nd line = 4 beats,
3, 4 is just so,
Count 2 and then go,
5th line = 4 beats.
InvisibleDale 29th Dec 2011, 5:59 AM edit delete reply
Or if you prefer:
1 and a 2 and a 3 rest,
1 and a 2 rest,
1 and a 2 and a 3 rest.

Standard cadence for a limeric.
SaddlesoapOpera 29th Dec 2011, 6:05 AM edit delete reply
There once was a poet named Dan
Whose limericks never would scan.
When queried on why
He said: "because I
Try to fit as many words into the very last line as I possibly can."

Hoshiz, it's Saddlesoap! Stop the presses!

I think of it in this way:

"Wait, don't you guys WANT to read my novel?"

When doing tabletop games via Skype, I've frequently had to keep my tendency to whip up excessive verbage down to a minimum. I can feel for Pinkie's player on this one: It's just a fun thing to do.

"Did you just come up with that now?"
I was wondering when you were going to use a line from the actual show.
Pinkie 3.14159265358979 29th Dec 2011, 10:03 AM edit delete reply
I doubt that's actually the first time he's used a line from the actual show, but like you it's the only one I recognized.

That was a pretty good limerick. And she would have 5 more stanzas.
PikalaxALT 29th Dec 2011, 1:43 PM Actually... edit delete reply
He used several actual lines from the show when god-controlling Spike. And Rarity's first few lines were CTRL+C/CTRL+V from the show.
Izandai 29th Dec 2011, 7:49 PM edit delete reply
Well, yeah, but that was while they were RPing. Using a line from the show is only really special if the player say it, not the characters. Or at the very least if the wrong character says it.
Kristina 30th Dec 2011, 6:48 PM edit delete reply
Well, actually there was one before this. When Rarity found out that she was the only one who rolled more Initiative than the manticore, she said "Forgive me if I withhold my enthusiasm."
Azureink 29th Dec 2011, 10:08 AM edit delete reply
That was a good use of Glib Limerick.

Now if you will excuse me, I have Giggle at the Ghostly to listen too.

Was "Pie" a common name back then or something?

Aw, don't be like that, Dash! After all...

While Barbarians do oft like to fight
With brutal rages and might
Sometimes a nice tune
Can give allies a boon
And beat baddies with silver-tounged smites!

While Barbarians love to rage
And vicious battle to wage
It is the Bard
Who works very hard
To create their ballad for stage.

Bravo for Pinkie's player! Encore! I want to see the other 5 stanzas!
modulusshift 29th Dec 2011, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
Rainbow's BSODing in that last panel, better move on.
And Pinkie's a bard, she's supposed to have this type of thing on call. It doesn't necessarily have to be of any quality, so congrats to Pinkie for actually putting out something of decent quality.

A king who was mad at the time,
decreed limerick writing a crime.
So late into the night,
all the poets would right,
poems with no rhyme or meter.

When mired in a problem's confusion,
Heed not to the boundary illusion.
For when rhyming with orange
One has to be more inge-
Nious to find a solution.

This reminds me of the time I used Giggle at the Ghosties as an Inspire Bravery song.

Thanks, Newbiespud! I'm genuinely impressed. I've only struggled to come up with rhyme, and you made it look easy, and a lot of fun. :D

This is my favorite page of the entire Nightmare Moon arc. Hands down.
I almost want to hear those other 5 stanzas...
