Thus begins our second foray into IDW conversions! The first one was a lot of fun. This one's going to be a 12-page mini-arc, and after that we get back to the show!

We didn't have a MTM session last week, but we did play stream a bunch of Quiplash that you can watch on YouTube if you're looking for some hilarity. We'll probably play it a couple more times!

News from the world of pony tabletop:
- Ponyfinder's latest expansion Kickstarter has about 5 days left and is well into stretch goal territory. I met David Silver at this year's Everfree Northwest - pretty darn cool guy.
- Roan is also a thing. Its Kickstarter has about 9 days left and is looking to close the distance. I got the email for this while I was off housesitting/on vacation, and by the time I got back it was way past the point where it would've been too awkward for a late reply, sooooooo...

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Wow. Nightmares, terror, sadness. This reminds me so much of episode 9 of ashes of valkhana.

This poll is going to hit close to home,
And for that, I apologize ahead of time.
What would you say is your worst nightmare?
Me: waking up to a house of dead family?
Scared me all day.
Digo 29th Aug 2015, 7:46 AM edit delete reply
Personal or character?

Personal is being forgotten.

I think s/he means the worst nightmare you have had IRL.

I once had a dream in which I was told, point blank, "you will die in two weeks". But I actually didn't think much of it until the next morning. I had school that day and one of my teachers was playing a guitar.. he was playing 'Don't Fear the Reaper'. THAT freaked me out.

The worst nightmare I ever had was about working in a lollipop factory which used souls to make the lollipops. My soul got made into a lollipop too.
My second worst nightmare I was on a boom lift, filming a blank white soundstage. I don't know why it was scary, but it was.
ARW 30th Aug 2015, 5:41 AM re: The Dream Job, Part 1 edit delete reply
Whitestone Productions has a film about that. Soul Lollies. /shudder

Some how ending up in the Twilight Zone and entering an alternate universe that is similar to this one, but either people have no idea who I am, or my friends and family do not seem to exist.

For a terror that can be realistic (or at least a little more/less tolerable) WW3, and I get drafted.

My worst nightmare I've had was... 7 years ago? It was one where I was literally skinned alive and slowly submerged inside a tub of rubbing alcohol as a form of torture. I woke up, my bed drenched in sweat with phantom pains, and still remember it almost perfectly. It was not fun.

I once had a dream at summer camp that the tenth Doctor was killed with a bunch of Cybermen thanks to one stupid astronaut, which allowed the Daleks to turn my summer camp into a concentration camp.

Woke up feeling very disturbed.

Okay, these are both from when I was, like, four years old, but they still kinda stalk my dreams. In the first one I can feel a hand wrapped around my leg, my hands are desperately trying to grab hold of something, anything, because I know that whatever has my leg is trying to tale me to be fed to its pet. I never really get a good look at the thing that's holding me, but I clearly remember it's pet, it was a giant, wcaley dog, with three horns on it's head the two on the side were curved like a rams, and the center one was long and stretched back behind it. Looking into this creature's eyes as the dream ended I KNEW it was going to have fun keeping me alive as long as possible before it killed me. The other had me stuck in a giant spider web... The spider had my mom's face... It f*ing freaked me out.

I had a nightmare recently where I was pursued by some description of murderous lunatic, running and clambering over all manner of obstacles in order to get away. He'd always emerge from the next corner when I thought I'd put some distance between us. So far so standard. The alarming part came when I realised I was too physically unfit to do any of this activity and immediately became no longer able to.

This was in 8th grade (when I only played flute and oboe). My nightmare was that on the night of the Jazz band concert, the bari sax player didn't show, so the director handed me his sax, music, a fingering chart, and set me on stage without getting to look at the music. Lo and behold I train wrecked in front of everyone: the audience, the band (my peers), the director, and my family. I let everyone down, after they had told me how much faith they had in me and that they needed me to save the concert. And I couldn't just walk off stage- I had to keep destroying all of credibility in myself in front of everyone in our small school and community.

Public humiliation at it's finest. Though during high school I did become the person who the director could tell me what instrument to play after looking at the roster.

To be honest, it might be the time I dreamed I made lasagna and it came out terribly. Or maybe it was one of the many times I had the traditional at-school-naked dream (though not the time it went off script and I noticed). I don't really have nightmares.

Now, if I had a dream about public speaking . . .

A childhood recurring nightmare where the house is dark and in a blue tone, falling apart around me, but whenever I go through a door to the outside it takes me back into a random other door in the house. This new house is intact, but still falling apart, so it all starts over. Also, all the rooms are huge with giant ceilings because reasons. Either that or the one where my little stuffed T-Rex comes to life, grows to full size, eats my parents, and I hide in a closet while he stomps around just outside the closet door.
Toric 29th Aug 2015, 8:19 AM edit delete reply
Odd. Rarity's face is at the top, yet her nightmare does not appear to be shown to the audience. It's probably nothing...
Raxon 29th Aug 2015, 8:35 AM edit delete reply
Probably nothing. Certainly not giant greed dragon Spike shoving his tongue down her throat and coming out the other end, then making her the centerpiece of a tacky pony centipede style necklace with the severed tongue. And then, after all that, doing the worst possible thing and dressing her in an orange and brown patchwork sack, decorated with parasprites that keep eating her mane and tail.
Specter 29th Aug 2015, 9:34 AM edit delete reply
... Raxon, I don't know why, but it has only occurred to me now that you are willing to say some of the most disturbing things that are just so close to be a creepy pasta. Why do this, and how can I perform this deed as well?
Guest 29th Aug 2015, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
Raxon does occasinoally steal my dreams.

One day I shall post before him!
Digo 29th Aug 2015, 5:57 PM edit delete reply
I don't know that Raxon is a role model you should copy. :)
Hariman 29th Aug 2015, 9:47 AM edit delete reply
That's just plain not funny at all.

Why do people insist on putting the darkest, creepiest, and most disturbing things into fandom of something happy and cheerful?
Raxon 29th Aug 2015, 10:03 AM edit delete reply
The necklace thing is just the weird dream. It's the horrible outfit, and the pests ruining her beautiful mane and tail that are the nightmare.

When you see it the way I do, it's not dark and disturbing, it's ridiculous and funny. Yes, creating a pony centipede by stringing a bunch of ponies together with a tongue is too ridiculous and over the top. Have I mentioned I dream in Gigervision?
Greenhornet 29th Aug 2015, 11:54 AM edit delete reply
For the answer for "what's your worst nightmare?".
My answer: Raxon's posts.
Wiinged Cat 29th Aug 2015, 1:50 PM edit delete reply
Or something too horrible to depict. This is a comic, and her nightmares may be more visual than the others'. "Lovecraft does fashion" comes to mind, the sort of thing where merely seeing it damages the viewer.
EEK 29th Aug 2015, 9:36 AM edit delete reply
Funny that's exactly what I did in high school Pinkie
Specter 29th Aug 2015, 9:43 AM edit delete reply
Speaking of night terrors, I have done something similar to this.
Mykin 29th Aug 2015, 1:35 PM edit delete reply

...*Ahem* So, nightmares, right, that should be interesting to see. I don't think any DM I know of that has tried this has ever gotten anywhere with having a group collective dream state. Usually because they have no clue what our characters would actually have nightmares about and we usually treat it like any other dungeon full of things that would terrify the living daylights out of sane folk. It just tends to not be a good idea with us.

That said, I'd love to see a story where a DM managed to pull off a nightmare dream session with his players. It sounds like something that has potential to be interesting, to say the least.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to throw as much money at Roan as possible and come up with a way to run a campaign with it....And also get the new Ponyfinder book for my collection. Hurray for going broke after getting my paycheck! ^_^
Winged Cat 29th Aug 2015, 1:57 PM edit delete reply
I can think of several ways to run a campaign with it. I don't suppose you're up for running online campaigns?
Mykin 29th Aug 2015, 3:01 PM edit delete reply
Most of the games I'm in are online, so of course this campaign will be online too. Whether or not I'll make a good campaign with Roan remains to be seen. I don't have the best track record of GMing games (though those games happened years ago and without any planning) and considering that the last two pony related games I was in (not counting the FO:E one) died before they got anywhere...well, I'd like to avoid that fate as much as possible.

Either way, I can't really do much until I get my hands on the rulebook itself (which is slated for January of next year...of course I believe it will get funded and come out next year. I threw $200 at it. It better get funded at this point) outside of creating a general outline and looking up stuff for how to be a good GM, so we'll see what happens. It's something I'd like to try out, at least. Speaking of preparation, anyone got any good advice on this kind of thing? I'm willing to take whatever I can get.
Digo 29th Aug 2015, 6:01 PM edit delete reply
For me it's like writing a "Choose your adventure" story. You have a beginning and end in mind and you just have to get some general notes down on various paths the players might take.

And then brace yourself for those inevitable moments where they take paths you didn't think of.
Mykin 31st Aug 2015, 2:32 PM edit delete reply
It those inevitable moments that has me worried. I tend to panic when things don't go as planned so I'll have to see about working on that. The game's funded now, so I guess I better get started. *Cracks knuckles*

I honestly don't understand what Rainbow Dash's panel is supposed to be. It's the Wonderbolts, but they're... flying with a smaller pegasus who's not wearing their uniform?
Disloyal Subject 29th Aug 2015, 6:38 PM edit delete reply
Disloyal Subject
It's not who they're flying with. It's who they're flying without.
Dream-Dash is in the panel too, but her wings appear to be plucked.
Ishidan 30th Aug 2015, 10:09 PM Plucked wings edit delete reply
Yup, just so. The out of uniform leader...does that look like gray fur and yellow tail to you?
Borg 30th Aug 2015, 7:29 PM edit delete reply
Incidentally, I think that's Spitfire flying higher and out of uniform.
Brickman 31st Aug 2015, 7:31 PM edit delete reply
Yikes, what kind of sicko would pluck out all a pegasus's feathers? Probably the same kind that would goes around giving random people vivid nightmares, I guess.
Chaos Theory 30th Aug 2015, 3:44 PM edit delete reply
Oh starting the nightmare ark, this should be interesting. Well the DM did say he was going to make things harder, this'll probably complete that goal.

Greatest Nightmare? Simple. Anterograde and Retrograde amnesia, combined. Your existence, as defined by your sense of self, ceases to be and will never be again, because you don't remember and will never remember. My greatest fear is loss of self.
