Happy Halloween, everybody. Let's all pretend this comic page is 666.666 rounded up or something. (So close...)

<sigh> No podcasts. October's been terrible for basically all my projects, but the podcast especially. Seems like every week some bad news at home or something medical or something technical came up, and there wasn't much I could do about it. And I'm the kind of guy that, when I'm not productive enough, it just compounds everything that's making me down on myself. So here's hoping November marks some kind of turn for the better. Because right now, it could still yet turn worse. <sigh>

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Hey, there's still a chance for October to redeem itself. Halloween can be a fun way to get away from it all for a bit.

Story Time: When was a time someone attempted an accent, and it didn't quite go as planned?
venseyness 31st Oct 2015, 6:35 AM In a play edit delete reply
I'm actually in a play right now, and it's supposed to be in the south, so the entire time I was doing a southern accent in rehersal, when suddenly ml line comes up, and I shout "Get a doctor!" All in a southern accent up until "Doctor," which turns amazingly British amazingly quickly.
Doctor Who had forsaken me.
The entire cast cracked up.

It's hard for me to do a good Spanish accent. I'm Puerto Rican by birth. You do the math. :3

I guess it's a bit like Cuteless' situation in Dragon Mawlers?

Cuteless 2nd Nov 2015, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
I'd resent that Digo if it wasn't true

Nothing in a game, but whenever I try to speak with an Irish accent, I sound like a Scottish pirate instead (and when I try to speak with a Scottish accent I sound like a regular pirate)

I just don't know what goes wrong
Digo 31st Oct 2015, 12:47 PM edit delete reply
So what happens if you try for a pirate accent?
T 31st Oct 2015, 11:15 PM edit delete reply
Maybe deep down you are a pirate.

Urgh. Don't get me started. We had a GM who had only one accent, best described as 'Cajun Cockney'. Not that he wasn't trying for something else, he just couldn't get it right. It screeched and warbled its way out any time there was an 'exotic' NPC.

I can *sing* in a Scottish, Irish or Australian accent well enough, because I've learned lots of folksongs by listening to native speakers. Actually speaking is another thing.

Right now, I'm at work dressed as a cowboy (or maybe an Australian, if I pin up my hat), and am struggling with the accent. I plan to break out a guitar and sing some folksongs, which will be much easier accentwise.

I am awful at accents. Truly terrible. WHenever I try and use one, it's a bad time.
sidhe3141 31st Oct 2015, 12:35 PM edit delete reply
Not one I was around for, but over on GiantITP, the S.U.E. Files GM seemed to only have three voices: Auctioneer Valley Girl, William Shatner High As A Kite On Morphine, and Bad Dick Cheney Impression.

This one time, I tried to make the drow russians to mess with everyone. They asked me if the drow matron had a speech defect.

This is a bit of a step away from the subject of drow with Russian accents but is the second comment here one of yours? If so: HI!

Yep! I've been known to peruse skin horse.
Digo 2nd Nov 2015, 9:54 AM edit delete reply
Oh, I know that artist! I love her Monster-of-the-Week series. Hope she brings it back.

I also liked Narbonic, but not nearly as much as Skin Horse. SH is just so much more memorable.

As far as Narbonic, I vaguely remember a transhuman sex god, Dave's time traveling daughter, "you don't want to go among mad people" and dave snapping, nonpsychotic people not being able to hear hamsters talk, and the consortium of Daves.

Skin Horse, on the other hand, I remember M going nuts, Sweetheart going on a rampage, Tip bedding Lee, Tip bedding a cop, Tip bedding a funkadelic jive mad genius, Tip accidentally bedding two women while not paying attention, the robot revolt, tip almost bedding the sexy harpy lady with the irrational fear of hats, Tip mud wrestling and then kissing Konstantin, the evil swamp, TJ losing her funk, Unity eating corpses, Unity trying to eat her mother, Unity eating vegan friendly brains and becoming smart, Unity eating an electronic brain, Unity getting all warm and squishy for a dude who gives her food, Unity causing all sorts of other problems, tip ruining an ecosystem, Sweetheart going home, the time loop thing, Nick's filthy metaphysical mouth, I could go on and on. I love Skin Horse!

I am a master of accents! I know how to do dozens of those!
Now doing them well on the other hand...

In one campaign we had a PC who was secretly the daughter of a British VIP and had grown up in Hong Kong. The player couldn't maintain an upper class British accent long - so the character adopted a thick, stereotyped, and silly Chinese accent. She rarely broke it when her father wasn't around (he didn't care for the fortune cookie accent); hearing her actual British voice was a sign something was up. Out of character, it could really surprise some of the players when she opened her mouth and the BBC came out. It was fun.

Disloyal Subject
I don't really do accents. They never come out as intended. For example, I can attempt an Irish accent and end up with something that vaguely resembles a Russian one.
Mykin 2nd Nov 2015, 9:02 AM edit delete reply
One of my DMs can do an excellent dwarf impersonation, among other ok accents. I personally can't do any accents myself and the one time I tried I couldn't keep it up for longer than a couple of sentences.

We had a bard try to do a Scottish accent one time. That ended about as well as you can imagine.

Well that was strangely prophetic. I read Spud's comments and suddenly the comic refused to load. O.o`

On a side note
Bats, Sleepless in Ponyville, Luna eclipsed, and the new episode are on Discovery family as part of the Halloween special

Specter 31st Oct 2015, 10:51 AM edit delete reply
Newbiespud, no. You don't use the words where the "knock on wood" thing becomes an issue, that's for people that life uses as a punching bag (such as myself). When you see life rear its head again, slap it back into oblivion, and tell it to get back to work, cause it's two week vacation is up. Instead of my usual miserable exsistance (that requires me to rely heavily on daydreaming and story development on things I will likely abandon in a few months), I have just been really bored, and to me, 'boredom' is somewhere below 'miserable' of feelings I want to feel.

Don't you worry none sugarcube, November's gonna be a great month.
Digo 1st Nov 2015, 5:25 AM edit delete reply
Yay, daylight savings is over. I can now get the comic an hour earlier!
Mykin 1st Nov 2015, 2:59 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, after everything I just went through at work, remembering that I can now get the comic an hour earlier has just made my day better. That and today's FO:E game, but I'll save that story for later.
Digo 2nd Nov 2015, 9:58 AM edit delete reply

I look forward to hearing that story. :D
Mykin 2nd Nov 2015, 10:40 PM edit delete reply
My stories can't be that good now, can they?

But yeah, we'll see if the coming comics give me the opportunity to share it.
Hmm 2nd Nov 2015, 7:46 PM edit delete reply
Didn't they go up to level 8 at some point?
