Someone pointed out at the last second that the previous page went live on July 28th, the same day I launched Friendship is Dragons five years ago.

Even more incredible that I wrote that page, scheduled it, and let the update pass by without remembering such an important day, but them's the breaks. It's... an uncertain time, real-life-wise, and when you work on a project all by yourself that has a strict schedule, you don't exactly set up a calendar for it.

Still. Five years. I guess that puts Friendship is Dragons firmly in the category of "long-running webcomic." Strange to think about.

I have no idea how to celebrate (feel free to suggest ideas), but for the moment, how about share some of your favorite parts of the comic? Allow me this one precious second of nostalgic vanity.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

I think my favorite bit was when Twilight axed the whole parasprite infestation in a single round, but all of her read-the-GM's-mind speed wins were great.

wait the changling and nightare rarity storlines were cannon? I thought they were just long guest comics.
ANW 2nd Aug 2016, 2:54 AM edit delete reply
In his words, those two are canon, just in another time.

Would the power ponies story line count as a semi-canon story line set in an alternate universe because I really liked that one.

Me:Dragon Mountain
This session developed one character more then any other.

Aw, I have to pick? Um....damn. I kind of can't. I've loved everything so far, so I honestly don't have a favorite moment or arc. I suppose my favorite thing has been all the inspiration both the comic and the comments section has given me for the campaigns I am designing. Part of the fun is working out out to convert everything into version 3.5 D&D. I am one of those hold-outs who wants nothing to do with later editions of D&D. Fortunately, D&D is the only RPG system where I am so stubborn (EXALTED!!! SKLEEE!!!)

If I had to pick just one example, I choose The Cleric.

Yes, a guest comic. The point is that you routinely deliver comics so awesome that they inspire stuff like this. (I hope my own continue to live up to the bar.)

I'd say my particular favorite memory is all the stuff that spawned from this comic in relation to Fallout is Dragons.

Favorite part... I'm going to say either the gleam in Twilight's eye way back in the first arch when she is about to fall off the cliff, the mane 6 after the get drenched by the sea serpent, or the apparant back story of Angel.

Congrats on more than five years, Spud! It's honestly hard for me to pick a favorite part; I've enjoyed it all too much.

I would have to go back all the way to #90, where Twilight explains in comic how Magic is the spark of friendship and the final element of harmony way better than the source material (aka the show) ever did. (And the anguished screams of a thwarted DM puts the delicious topping on the cake.)

My favorite part of the comic itself has to be the initial storyline. While it certainly wasn't the best storyline in the whole comic, it has a special place in my heart for being what got me into the MLP fandom.

But I'd have to say my favorite part of the site is the community its formed here in the comments. All of us sharing stories or just talking about the comic...and we're all so good natured about it, which is a rarity.

So thank you for five years of that, Newbiespud!

I have to say anytime Twilight (inadvertently or not) derails the DM's plans, with my personal favorite being Nightmare Moon. Mainly because it reminds me of how my first campaign went with me as the derail-er...

Huh, now that I think about it; besides the initial powergaming she did, my own way of playing and approach to D&D is very similar.

Favorite part of the comic... well, I did like Luna Eclipse story arc. Especially when I tried to figure out who was setting Luna up and it turned out to be no one important. Oh and comic 539 is especially my favorite within that arc. Honestly, what did the DM's table ever do to you, Luna?

I think it was that arc that finally convinced me that I should try my hand at guest comic-ing. I just wish I had something to submit this time around. Oh well, next time.

Twilight: DM, stop trying to make Derpy happen. It's not going to happen.

I don't know if I have a favorite part of the comic, but I'm pretty sure that being part of the comments with my alt-scripts way back when was the first time I had actually posted something on the Internet, rather than being an eternal lurker. I enjoyed the comic then, I enjoy it now, and I hope to continue to enjoy it for as long as Spud wants to make it.

It's hard to say what my favorite part it. It's all just been a super great and fun ride. It's funny, reading this comic has actually outlived my watching the show. (I didn't really stop liking it, life just got too busy and I fell behind.)
It's a great comic. Here's to five more years!

My favorite part was where Pinkie substituted as the DM. It was charming to see a DM having fun and driving the players crazy for a change, instead of the other way around. And that Timberwolf puppet was too cute.

I don't comment here much, but Friendship is Dragons has been a part of my day for, well, five years. And it's still my favorite webcomic, like, ever. So thanks for all the Ponies!

Also, I guess one of my favorite parts of Friendship is Dragons is Rainbow Dash's recaps. To quote #120, "The important thing to take away from this is that Rainbow Dash is the most awesome not-wimpy rainbow pegasus that ever existed." This is, after all, the adventures of five supporting characters and Rainbow Dash. Never forget it!

Favorite part of the story?
I love all of it but if I had to pick one storyline it would have to be pinkie pie as the DM cause that was the point the comic was at when I found it

Bit Late but My favorite part had to be the whole them screwing the entire campaign up and still wanting to play the game, even though they had doubts about such a weird and out of place thing... it mimicked much of the brony fandom and had that dose of humourous retrospect that really made me like the DM and players as characters!
