I'm reminded of times when hanging out with my siblings and we all end up thinking or saying the same thing. I often quip "Gee, it's like we're related."
I enjoyed it immensely! I know guest comics are generally considered not canon but until anything happens to prove them non canon I personally am going to consider the link with the Crystal GMs canon xD

Seeing these screenshots reminds me how long it's been since I actually watched the show. I have no idea what's going on here.
Long story short: Fluttershy invited Tree Hugger to that year's Gala. Discord is irked (and jealous) that she's not going with him, and in part to get back at her for "neglecting" him, attends with the Smooze, an ooze-like being from the G1 MLP series. Predictably, disaster strikes.
Also, in case you were confused about Discord being out, about, and jealous- He was freed, and reformed by Fluttershy, who he now considers a friend.
Don't forget that the reason she didn't invite Discord as her +1 was that she, (correctly), assumed he would have his own invitation.
Notably, while the G4 Smooze has no taste for flesh, it does enjoy devouring treasure. And yes, Discord brought it into the Castle--where the walls are lined with treasure, there are closets full of treasure, and the guests are all walking around covered in treasure. Which is how we end off with a room-filling Smooze, out to gobble up the guests (and spit out a naked, slimy pony after a few seconds of slurping the jewelry off them. Yes, Rarity WAS its first target)
If anywhere in your roleplay session someone ask "can I keep him/her?", play it safe and answer "No."
