Dash's player loves listening to 8-bit/16-bit video game chiptunes?!

I have a new best friend. <3
Evilbob 28th Feb 2017, 2:49 PM edit delete reply
Chiptunes make the best ringtones, lol.
I have 8-bit/16-bit chiptune of Pinkie Pie's cupcake song as my notification beep, lol.

Nixitur 28th Feb 2017, 7:21 PM edit delete reply
Chiptunes are dope as heck. One of my favorite video game soundtracks of recent months is the Super Rad Raygun one by FantomenK and BubblePipe Media.
It's unfortunately not available to listen to without purchase, but just watch its two trailers to get a peek. It is extremely good.

I still loved the old Vanguard videogame when you power up the spacecraft. It didn't take long to figure out the music was from the Flash Gordon soundtrack by Queen.

Frankly, that soundtrack is *pure* Rainbow Dash, now that I think about it...

Dash, a-ah, saviour of the universe
Dash, a-ah, she'll save everyone of us
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Dash, a-ah, she's a miracle
Dash, a-ah, queen of the impossible
She's for everyone of us
Stand for everyone of us
She'll save with a mighty hand
Every man, every woman
Every child, with a mighty flash
Dash, a-ah
Dash, a-ah,…

Heh. It even scans...

I've tried out Mongolian folk metal in our sessions. It was mainly met with bewilderment.

when I was in college, I had a CD of Gyuto Monks chants, I borrowed an extension cord from a neighbor, put my boom box, on full blast) in the nearby stairwell, and hit play. For 10 minutes, the entire dorm building acted as an amplifier, and their chanting was heard all across town.

People underestimate the skill and genius involved in good chip tune music. Taking maybe a half dozen basic tones and stringing them together into a song that you can listen to on loop for hours on end without going insane? That's next level.
Joe the Rat 28th Feb 2017, 6:56 AM edit delete reply
As part of the original "Prisoner of Zelda" generation, I'd say "without going insane" is relative.

Final Fantasy was flat-out amazing for the era.

Oh yeah, love the music from the older FF games! Nobuo Uematsu is a musical genius.

"Prisoner of Zelda" is that a pun?

Now I'm imagining Link having to dress up like Zelda in order for her to retain her throne.

If there was any time for this poll, it is now.
Favorite type of music.
Me:Video game songs, with lyrics
I also enjoy a good opening theme song here and there.
aylatrigger 28th Feb 2017, 8:31 AM edit delete reply
I like Comedy, Jazz, Classical, Choral, Video Game, Musicals, Nerdy/Geeky, ...and songs about murder. No to little rap or metal because I get headaches from them. If the song has lyrics, I pay attention to them, so the lyrics must be audible above the instrumentals.

...The murder songs I started collecting because my brother showed me this: and said, "I saw this and I thought of you." I instantly thought of four songs (A Little Priest, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Brand New Day, and I Hold Your Hand in Mine). ...Since then, I have been amassing a collection.
Jennifer 28th Feb 2017, 9:18 AM edit delete reply
Ayla: Then you should look at traditional Celtic folk music - Murder ballads are a standard of the genre. I've written one myself (a parody).

It should be obvious from that my favoured music is folk, particularly Celtic. Mostly songs and ballads, but bagpipes, tin whistle and hammer dulcimer are good for instrumentals.
aylatrigger 2nd Mar 2017, 3:08 PM edit delete reply
Oooh, I will look into that.

...And to you have a link to your parody?
Rastaba 28th Feb 2017, 10:16 AM edit delete reply
Anime OP/ED songs, video game soundtracks, musical numbers, classical...okay, basically long as it isn't bagpipes or I don't feel my ears starting to bleed from it, I like a ton of different music. I literally can't listen to bagpipes without cringing.
Anvildude 28th Feb 2017, 2:16 PM edit delete reply
But bagpipes are wonderful!

I'm a bit of everything as well, but I prefer either sweeping epic orchestrals, deeply layered and bass-heavy smooth EDM (lotsa wubbyness) or something I can groove to- lotsa 70s music fits the bill for me there, but if it makes me start wigglin', I'll give it a listen.

Most rap, newschool R&B, hip-hop... doesn't do it for me. Either because the lyrics are just too ridiculous, or because the beat is too slow. But some of it is fantastic.
Talyn 28th Feb 2017, 7:14 PM edit delete reply

Only song I've ever heard bagpipes I like.

I'm not normally a fan of bagpipes either, but there is ONE instance that bagpipes play out so well-- Spock's funeral scene in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.

It somehow WORKS.

That was because Scotty was playing them. Scotty can make ANYTHING work.
Specter 28th Feb 2017, 1:59 PM edit delete reply
I actually listen to a little bit of everything. More specifically I listen to songs with vocals that include a story (of sorts).

Instrumental music I tend to only listen to when I'm focusing on some kind of work and I need some background noise to drown out the void.
Mykin 1st Mar 2017, 8:30 AM edit delete reply
Favorite type of music. Ugh, this keeps changing like nobody's business. Well, I typically like Orchestra, Classical Rock, Anime OST, Touhou, Techno, Eurobeat, Some Nightcore, J-Pop, a couple of K-Pop songs, Jazz, Instrumental, basically anything with a good beat or rhythm that isn't rap I tend to like.
reynard61 1st Mar 2017, 1:43 PM edit delete reply
Classical (Mostly Symphonies and large choral works, but also Baroque, Hunting Horn, and Organ music), Soundtracks (especially for animation); some '60s, '70s and '80s Rock; and Novelty songs. (i.e. Spike Jones, Weird Al, Tom Lehrer, Stan Freberg, etc.)
Rokas 1st Mar 2017, 6:10 PM edit delete reply
Good music. That is, any song in just about any genre that's actually well made and fun to listen to.

Saying that, I effing love Metal. So brutal, so heavy, and yet so full of energy. Most forms of Metal, anyway. Power, Speed, Folk, And Authentic Scottish Pirate are all forms of Metal that really get me going, but I don't really like Black or Death Metal.

After that, Country/Western. Yes, it's quite the flip, but hey, there's just somethin' I love 'bout Twang.

Then of course good orchestral stuff. Anything bombastic really gets my blood flowing and my brain juicing itself up. Freaking love horns. Nothing says "we're gonna be triumphant" than a bunch of horns coming in at the right time.

Then techno/electronic stuff. Usually Industrial. Or anything funky by Frank Klepacki, because he is awesomesauce in human form.

....But f*** Reggaton. Seriously, I hope that genre dies a horrible, burning death.
Mochi 2nd Mar 2017, 12:08 AM edit delete reply
If you like electronic stuff and horns, you should really check out Parov Stelar if you haven't already. This is my favorite song by them
Chronic Lurker 1st Mar 2017, 10:41 PM edit delete reply
*deep breath* Classical, New Age, Baroque, Gothic Metal, Symphonic Metal, Symphonic Rock, video game soundtracks, movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks, J-pop, J-rock, Classic rock, 60s-80s pop music, 80s new wave, 80s rock, Celtic folk music, bagpipe music, some American folk music, covers and remixes of all of the above, ANYTHING WITH PIPE ORGANS.... *passes out from lack of oxygen*

Basically, the only genres of music I hate are country music, the vast majority of post-80s pop music, and rap. There are others I just don't care about one way or the other as well like jazz, hip-hop, blues, motown, and R&B. But other than that my taste in music is pretty broad. Add to that the fact that I used to compose my own songs using a music writing program on my laptop, and STILL come up with original melodies but can't record them anymore.... I'm...kind of a music nerd.

Space elevator mane in a bardo of one of the poles? Elevator to the center of the hollow earth bardo? Just a "regular" elevator in a "haunted hotel" that was exposed to massive amounts of Mania? This sounds like a good story and I for one wouldn't mind hearing if you don't mind telling.

Nockmarr. Castle.

Honestly, the talk about chiptune music has me recalling the Etrian Odyssey series. Really good stuff which came out on the first three games before it got an "update" in the 3DS games.

This seems like an opportune time to reiterate my position that RAY of Speed, on the OCRemix Armored Core album, should have a PMV made of it based on you-know-what.
