Bonus extra-length comic!

This is all description for the players, but I honestly couldn't justify trying to write up all those words - only to have them cover up the art - when the pictures really tell themselves.

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Taste The Rainbow, Motherfucker!
GameFreak 8th Mar 2012, 5:08 AM edit delete reply
That is exactly what goes through my head when I watch that scene.
Derpmind 8th Mar 2012, 5:12 AM edit delete reply
So that's basically a glorified "first" comment.

The only logical conclusion is to put this at the top of every new page from now on, to properly assert my "firstness" over everypony else! :P /jk

Can you taste it?! Well?! Can ya, punk?!

Sorry, had to be done.

EDIT: Aw, ninja'd. That'll teach me to waste time checking if I have the quote right before I post.
Brony Is Magic 8th Mar 2012, 5:28 AM edit delete reply
But I don't WANNA taste the rainbow! It's spicy. :(
Panoptes 8th Mar 2012, 7:27 AM edit delete reply
Okay, so the show's established that rainbows are spicy, but what KIND of spicy are they? The lip-burning hot pepper spicy? Ginger spicy? Horseradish spicy? I guess horseradish would make sense - or maybe ponyradish - but I don't like horseradish.

I'm thinking way too much about a throwaway joke from a kid's cartoon again, aren't I?
Brony Is Magic 8th Mar 2012, 7:58 AM edit delete reply
Pinkie Pie soaks cupcakes in Tabasco and doesn't flinch. She got one lick of Spectra, and BREATHED FIRE! I'd say rainbows are the F*CK UP YOUR INSIDES AND MAKE YOU SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST kind of spicy.
Kaleopolitus 8th Mar 2012, 8:38 AM edit delete reply
Probably pure capsaicin grade spicy.
DanielLC 8th Mar 2012, 10:15 AM edit delete reply
I think capsaicin will hurt when it touches your skin. The hoof doesn't cover the entire bottom of the foot, so she'd feel it.
Karilyn 10th Mar 2012, 4:15 AM edit delete reply
Sure she dumped Tabasco on her cupcake. But (relatively speaking) Tabaso is extremely extra mild. I can drink an entire bottle of Tabasco without breaking into a sweat, and only feeling a mild tingle on my tongue.

By comparison, there are hot sauces that I will only use 1.5 drops in an entire can of soup, because 2 drops will be inedible for me. And there are hot sauces which exist that are up to 20 times spicier than this one I use.

Pinkie took a full lick of the rainbow, far more than 2 drops. It wouldn't be hard at all to understand why she could slather cupcakes in Tabasco but still be burned by the rainbow.

... Now I kind of want to estimate the the capsaicin content of rainbow by estimating the rough amount of capsaicin resistance to eat a tabasco soaked cupcake without flinching, and the volume of hotsauce needed to soak a cupcake, and the volume of hotsauce licked off of a hoof, and the approximate minimum amount of capsaicin that would be needed to make a person who can eat tabasco soaked cupcakes to pant heavily from the spiciness.

[witty name goes here] 14th Nov 2012, 8:50 PM edit delete reply
So...the good kind of spicy?
Zeeth 8th Mar 2012, 11:12 AM edit delete reply
Rainbows are made of refracted light, broken into a spectrum of single-tone frequencies. So rainbows are made of FRICKIN' LASERS.

*That* kind of spicy!
Derpmind 8th Mar 2012, 3:13 PM edit delete reply
So rainbows are liquified lasers? Yet another thing from FiM to mark down as "Off-the-scale Awesome!"
modulusshift 8th Mar 2012, 5:44 PM edit delete reply
All of the above. Her head flashed several different colors, it was probably several different excruciating kinds of spicy.
Xuncu 9th Mar 2012, 1:34 AM Not like Skittles edit delete reply
Altnerate Guess; industrial chemicals.
Bronymous 8th Mar 2012, 10:04 AM edit delete reply
Im betting its closer to Battery Acid. If you want to drink rainbow, try mixing in some cloud, as apparently that vastly dilutes the spice.
DanielLC 8th Mar 2012, 10:16 AM edit delete reply
Acids are sour, not spicy.
Bronymous 8th Mar 2012, 10:20 AM edit delete reply
Go drink some battery acid and get back to me on that.
Kaleopolitus 8th Mar 2012, 11:38 PM edit delete reply
Alright. So I'm typing this from the hospital where I'm being treated for severe injuries to my stomache: Battery acid tastes sour, not spicy. But only a little bit, it mostly just tastes like death.
T 9th Mar 2012, 7:02 AM edit delete reply
Actually a friend of mine tried by accident a dilluted battery acid solution (sulfuric acid). We knew that acids are supposed to taste sour but his description was "bitter".

Oh, yeah, has anyone noticed that Twilight Sparkle is Jean Gray? Look up "Cutie Mark Chronicles" and you'll see my point.
Guest 8th Mar 2012, 5:44 AM edit delete reply
I think far more people who read this comic would have to look up Jean Gray than would have to look up Cutie Mark Chronicles.
Yinan 8th Mar 2012, 6:41 AM edit delete reply
I would more say that Twilight Sparkle is more like the Avatar from "Avatar - The Last Aribender" ^^ Thats obiously the Avatar-Mode there! ^^
Classic Steve 8th Mar 2012, 6:50 AM edit delete reply
The question is how to match the other ponies to Marvel mutants. "The Last Round-up" reinforces the idea that Pinkie Pie should be Deadpool. Going by accent alone, I'd have Applejack be Rogue. Rarity can be the White Queen. Rainbow Dash might be Angel. What's left for Fluttershy?
Brony Is Magic 8th Mar 2012, 7:08 AM edit delete reply
Shadowcat. All the way.
Panoptes 8th Mar 2012, 7:29 AM edit delete reply
I need only six words to confirm this:

Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns.

Celestia is best Xavier.

[edit] And the Stare totally qualifies Fluttershy to be Cyclops. Also her general do-goodery.
pinkie_piepe_bomb 8th Mar 2012, 9:07 AM edit delete reply
Yes, but she's also not a total ass.
Jomoru 8th Mar 2012, 1:09 PM edit delete reply
Rainbow Dash is all about SPEED, she even shows her impatience towards slower types on occasion.
Bronymous 8th Mar 2012, 10:01 AM edit delete reply

Anvildude 8th Mar 2012, 10:14 AM edit delete reply

Big Mac is Colossus. Vinyl Scratch is Dazzler (sorry, Scratch), Derpy is Squirrel Girl....

I could probably do this all day.
techogre 8th Mar 2012, 12:02 PM edit delete reply
So Derpy trumps all? It's Marvel canon that Doom is scared of Squirrel Girl. I mean she took him down, solo, twice. She's probably beating up Galactus as we type!

ArcheonZ 8th Mar 2012, 10:52 AM edit delete reply

Someguy 9th Mar 2012, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
What do you call Ponyville if not Celestia's Danger Room?
Karilyn 10th Mar 2012, 4:23 AM edit delete reply
Rainbow Dash is clearly Northstar, not Angel. Considering that his powers are superfast flight, and uh... other details about his personal life which just make him feel appropriate for Rainbow Dash.

The problem with saying Applejack is Rogue based on accent alone, is that Applejack has a western accent, not a southern accent. Applebloom could be Rogue on accent alone, but not Applejack. I'd want to say Applejack is Wonder Woman, but that's totally the wrong universe.

I agree with all the rest though. Now the question is, who's Twilight Sparkle?
Vulpis 23rd Jul 2012, 2:07 PM edit delete reply

One of the adventures I ran in D&D was a conversion of the old "Text adventure" SHADOWGATE. I took a few liberties with it, the big one being that there was an evil cleric down in the basement getting ready to open a gateway that'll summon Tiamat into the realm.

The major plot-point of the adventure was to find the scattered pieces of an artifact designed to seal gateways. The party was successful, although to make them sweat-it-out a bit, the assembled device came with no insturctions on how to activate the artifact.
All they had to do was point it at the gate and "Will" the gate closed.

The artifact device was described as firing off a huge multi-colored beam at the gate, which one player blinked and asked "Did we just fire the Pony Friendship Beam?"

Laughter ensues followed by the bard calling dibs on being the Element of Laughter. :D

It's alright children. You can say the quote now if you like.

Let's see, I already covered the Elements having to be taken away from the party, what else can I do? Hmm...oh. Of course.

DM: The technicolor flash blinds you. After your vision clears, you see the sun start to shine in through the windows. Where NMM once stood lies a smaller unicorn, with dark blue flank, light blue hair, a small crown, and a cutie-mark in the shape of a crescent moon.
RD: Alright, girls. Let's finish her off!
DM: ....WHAT?
AJ: Um, RD, I don't think we're supposed to do that, and even I don't want to make the DM angry twice in a row.
RD: No. Need I remind you that she was threatening to kill us all not 15 seconds ago? I'm not putting up with a recurring villain that I consciously let go.
FS: But we hit her with the Elements and the sun is up. Maybe she can't hurt anypony anymore.
Twilight: Besides, doesn't the setting, as well as the Elements themselves, imply that friendship is the most powerful force here?
RD: I fought a total of three mooks. THREE MOOKS. I'm going to fight this threat to Equestria while I still have the chance, powered up or not.
DM: A ray of sunlight through the window suddenly shines brighter, and Princess Celestia appears.
Rarity: RD, surely you wouldn't deny our sovereign the chance to deal with NMM herself?
RD:...Would the Elements work again?
DM: The Elements seem to be inert at the moment.
RD:...Alright, even I'm not stupid enough to go up against a fully powered god-empress without back-up. But I want to fight a dragon for this, you understand?
DM:Duly noted.

…Faith has held little reward for me in the past, and I do not keep to my illusions about its rewards now. Such is the way of life in this place, a world where words can mean much but lead to little. Faith now is a weakness I cannot afford, on my budget of half-baked schemes and wilting dreams. Know that I hold not to your words of promise for comfort, but to how I will respond should they prove false. I will be the devil, come to collect his due. I will come at you with the force of ten-thousand dying suns, desperation my only motivation and wrath my truest friend. Angels will weep and Demons will cry out in fear as I tear down your world, blasting asunder whatever gods you hold to, whatever loves and comforts you cling to, whatever life you claim to call your own. So make your promises, if you still can, knowing that should you fail to deliver, I can, and will, collect what is owed, whether you have it or not.

You must be new. Would it blow your mind if I said they rolled none?
Kaleopolitus 8th Mar 2012, 11:44 PM edit delete reply
I'm glad to realize that I already thought the same thing. I'm truly becoming a D&D player, step by step.

Anyway, the reason they must likely rolled none was because they guessed the story correctly. They had a McGuffins that was far more powerfull than the current level NMM.

Had the campaign run it's full length they might have needed to roll because NMM might be able to resist the Tactical Rainbow Strike, but in her current state she didn't stand a chance against such overwhelming force.

The battle is over. Our Princess was taken down and captured. But fear not my fellow bronies. She survived the moon for 1000 years, she will survive what ever else the tyrant Celestia throws at her. The revolution will start again. Long Live the New Lunar Republic.

Lyntermas 8th Mar 2012, 2:58 PM edit delete reply
Oh, yes. Instead of being ruled by one tyrant, let's be ruled by a princess and the Canterlot Elite. Imagine the taxes you pay going into the pockets of "representatives" who make Chancellor Puddinghead look benign, selfless, and sane. Wouldn't that be fun?

We've been biding for much longer than the moon-bound sister. And lo and behold, we propose something new: anarchy. No taxes, no rules, and all the chocolate rain you can drink. And if you don't like it? Well, you'll get used to it. Or not. We aren't really asking for your opinion, we're just telling you what to expect.

There's a storm coming that's been long overdo. You may love it, you may hate it, but you cannot ignore the triumphant return of Equestria's ORIGINAL ruler.
Hail Chaos. Hail Discord.

Oh, you kids.

The Three may have driven us to extinction on this planet, but they have since become bitter rivals, their power decimated. We will march on two legs upon Equestrian soil, and they will cower, their magics worthless against our technology, our drive for survival, and our cries for vengeance. Your time is at an end. The Armada is coming...

You speak of revolution. You speak of an original ruler. You speak of vengeance. You speak of unstoppability. You know not what you speak of.
We have conquered an entire galaxy of worlds, and seeded our slaves among them. We have crushed revolutions against us a hundred times the size of any that could come to being here. We have been the first and only rulers of countless worlds. We have taken vengeance on those who have opposed us, and ended all attempts of those we have oppressed to take vengeance on us. We have ruled this galaxy for tens of thousands of years, its unstoppable masters. We have taken millions upon millions of worlds as ours, and we shall take this world for our own as well.
Bow down to your gods.

Ok hang on a second, exactly how many factions are we dealing with here? I need to know so I can bring enough snacks.

And, you know, bullets.
darkwulf23 9th Mar 2012, 7:41 AM edit delete reply
I see our enemies are exposing themselves. That's fine, so far we're dealing with someone who is so chaotic he cannot even understand military organization, and a species that we killed off once, and an abomination that got his ass kicked by a couple of human fillies. That's fine, while you all fight amongst each other and the tyrant, we will go back underground and wait. Let you all kill each other off. But whatever the *bleep* Izandai represents, that might be a problem.
Lyntermas 9th Mar 2012, 8:34 AM edit delete reply
Well, well, well. Normally such a menagerie of power-grabbers would be good for a laugh, but too many conquerors spoil the broth, as they say. However, we would propose a temporary alliance to get rid of some of the more...insidious factions.

Our initial concern was with the Smooze. Not that it's any real threat to our power, mind you, but it's sticky and samey and gets EVERYWHERE. Princess, while we understand that hiding is your natural response to any real threat, we believe that you don't wish your..."subjects" to be drowned to death in simple hatred. Discord at least focused on military targets, the Smooze will just taint on whatever is in its path. As for you humans, well, we're sure that the Smooze's taint can't make you WORSE than you already are, but if you wish to rule this world, it will be a poor prize once everything's covered in ten feet of sludge.

Now for Izandai. Apparently he's done this sort of thing before. However, it is difficult whether he represents a being of ruthless, mindless Order or destructive, bloody Chaos. At least our Chaos is somewhat survivable, for those willing to adapt. We don't know if you bullet-laden bipeds have encountered this force before, but whatever hiding place you've been scraping about before now could be next. As for you Princess, well, for once we might agree on something.

We team up, deal with these forces, and then have a good proper war between us. Our ruler may treat Equestra as a playground, but it's HIS playground, and sludge and extraterrestrials are barely any fun at all (don't worry humans, you're quirky enough to keep around as toys if necessary).

And if the Sun Princess feels free to join in this little war summit, we welcome her. Wouldn't be the same without the current champion tyrant to face the opposition (And if Izandai isn't just blowing hot air, the Elements might even prove useful for once).
Masterofgames 9th Mar 2012, 8:47 AM edit delete reply

Mind Raping Bastards.

I'm not the princess, I am only a humble officer in her royal army. But you do speak the truth. No one can rule when everything is destroyed, and very few can stand against the power of two, if not three gods. But what guarantee do we have that you will not stab us in the back?
Finite Infinity 9th Mar 2012, 10:23 AM edit delete reply

Ah, Brony Is Magic. So good of you to join us. And, yes, insanity is indeed waiting if you choose to join the Discordian Anarchy. No more daily grind, no more slavery to the heartless precision of the clock and the law, no more abuse of social structures to benefit the few at the cost of the many. The...obstacles that our glorious leader may institute will not be a curse, but a blessing: food will rain from the skies, you will never be bored, and it will be a constant opportunity to show off a citizen's adaptability and creativity in surviving the landscape.

However, to be honest B.I.M., this may not be the faction for you. You claim you enjoy Equestria in it's current state, and I assure you once Discord rules, nothing will ever be the same.

If your misguided commitment to status quo overrides your drive to innovation and change, I suppose you could do worse than serve as Princess Celestia's representative in these talks. I don't know why you would be interested in serving a manipulative tyrant who will eventually lose, but it's your decision. Besides, Discord says that hearing from the Sun Princess is always good for a laugh.
Brony Is Magic 9th Mar 2012, 3:50 PM edit delete reply
Ha! Foolish prophet, Chaos is born out of Insanity! Insanity does not merely care for a good laugh, but enjoys the ability to corrupt all. I do not *serve* Celestia, but merely wish to see a maximized potential of the psychological scarring that is the most common lead to my power.
You may argue that Insanity can be cured, but I merely lie in wait for the perfect moment to spring forth, and wreak havoc on the psyches of others. I am a force not to be reckoned with, for I cannot be destroyed. I am eternal, for as long as there is anything in existence, I reside in the blackest part of its mind. Everything has shadows, and that is where I reside.

OK, we need to stop now. The comments were amusing but we really shouldn't be using this website for our own little chat room. Let's just enjoy the comic as it is and all the factions go back to their own corners.

But my corner is everywhere.
darkwulf23 9th Mar 2012, 4:30 PM edit delete reply
What corner, you just said that you are willing to be swayed by the one with the prettiest words. You my friend, are wishy washy.

I said I'd HELP the person with the best reason. I exist everywhere, I would just sort of spare the faction that sways me to help.

Chaos can wait (our leader still needs to break out of his stony prison for full effectiveness).

Great job, everyone. That was fun.

Come now, did you really think the same feeble magical transmutation could hold me a second time? I had aeons to examine it in the first instance, and The Sisters' execution of the spell was more solid by FAR than that of these new bearers. I've been free since a mere nine hours after my second imprisonment.

Naw, it's cool, I posted it after you commented.

Dammit you guys, I get stuck in traffic for ONE day and the thread gets so long I can't even produce a relevant response. Which is bullshit cause I had a good number of them lined up, starting with how the humans driven to extinction aren't the same as the ones I represent, stuff about advanced technology and warfighting materiel, some wise ass comments about Cthulu, etc.

But no. All wasted. And most of you won't even see THIS post because the new page goes up tomorrow morning.
Lyntermas 10th Mar 2012, 12:07 AM edit delete reply
Sorry you missed out, Fleet Commander Bronymous. But I'm sure the Armada will have its own chance to shine. I don't have much experience in chat rooms, but I would be interested to continue this.

So are they going to get XP for this? Well, are we going to see a "level up" on the cast page? Are they going to take any Prestige Classes?
Kaleopolitus 8th Mar 2012, 11:49 PM edit delete reply
If they don't get xp for this then the DM is a complete A-hole.

Other than that: I dunno.
Bronymous 9th Mar 2012, 12:02 AM edit delete reply
I don't actually think they can get xp for the boss fight, just because they didn't DO anything. And if they did, it would be x for taking down the Big Bad, which would be enough to turn this into an Epic Level campaign on the spot, ballpark estimate.

Then again, I'm 0-for-a million in Guess What Happens Next in this comic, so my predictions are worthless.
Burke 9th Mar 2012, 12:58 AM edit delete reply
Maybe not a per-kill reward, but there ought to be a story reward there.

The alternative is the DM saying "yes, you went on a magical adventure, figured out the use of ancient artifacts, uncovered the secrets in the depths of your own hearts, and learned <i>nothing</i>."
Kaleopolitus 9th Mar 2012, 5:44 AM edit delete reply
"uncovered the secrets in the depths of your own hearts"

"learned <i>nothing</i>"

Talk about contradictory. Uncovering something equals learning something (especially in D&D).
J 10th Mar 2012, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
I know very little about 4e, but in 3.5 xp is given based on overcoming the challenge, no matter how you do it. Doesn't matter if you kill the guard, bluff him or sneak past him, you get the same experience anyway. They may not have actually fought NMM, as such, but they pretty definitely beat her, so...XP!

Ok, the darkwulf23 comment stream up above has got to be the best comment stream of all time. I'm not muddying it with my praise, but I'm simply glad I'm able to post on the same page as it.

I'd like to continue it, but I don't know who some of the factions are.

Bronymous: Transformers?
Jason Shadow: The Smooze
Izandai: ???????

Any clarification would be appreciated.
darkwulf23 8th Mar 2012, 10:33 PM edit delete reply
I am apart of the Lunar Republic,Lynthermas is a prophet of Discord, Bronymous represents humans, Jason Shadow the cult of Smooze, and I think Izandai speaks of the ancient gods, maybe the chaos gods of warhammer. Not sure.

Two canon factions, one throwback, one headcanon/human and one crossover (maybe). Someone needs to jump in for Celestia and the Solar Empire, being that they are still technically in charge.

And me, leading the Anti-Reaper Invasion resistance.

And believe me, we will all see whi is the last surviving faction once it begins in... (checks notes) the season 3 finale.

*who* is the last one standing, I mean.

Hmm... come to think of it, The Doctor MIGHT be the last one standing! This will require a subtle blend of diplomacy and extreme violence...
Brony Is Magic 9th Mar 2012, 5:45 PM edit delete reply
I am the entity know only as Insanity.
Masterofgames 9th Mar 2012, 7:12 PM edit delete reply
Pleasure to meet you Insanity, though my friends say we have known each other in passing for many years. Would you like to join the Reaper Resistance? I'm the only member right now, nobody else believes me when I tell tham about robot aliens for some reason. While I have no proof that they will invade in our lifetime, or even exist at all, Better safe than sorry, right?

New members get a membership to the attack spell firing range I built behind my house, a set of boots, and best of all, their very own custom made tinfoil hat, which can be traded in for something that actually works once we have the budget to spare.

Please? I'm not crazy! I swear!

Lyntermas 9th Mar 2012, 12:57 PM edit delete reply
Well, Officer Darkwolf, I understand your reluctance given my sovereign's "track record", but at this point it's mainly a "lesser of two evils" kind of deal. We're chaotic, not stupid; we won't backstab our allies until the overriding threats have been taken care of. However, I do believe that some of these newer factions can be mitigated.

Reapers-Celestia seems to have measures against extraterrestrial invaders (may work against Izandai, but will probably view humans as "native" for some reason). Her defense mechanism is seen here.

Finite Infinity - Poor soul has gained the attention of Derpy Hooves the Clumsy. While not as immediately powerful as Pinkie Pie, she has an amazing talent for involuntary destruction relative to her surroundings. In Ponyville, a town hall; in deep space, an entire fleet.

Cthulu - I happen to know for a fact that Cthulu slumbers in the sunken city of R'lyeh in the Pacific Ocean on Earth. It will be the human factions problem before it could possibly affect Equestria.

Umiyuri-...Appeasement seems to be the best option. I don't think she wants rule Equestria, just be acknowledged as the dominant force if she wished to get involved. Chocolates, cakes, telling her she's cute...after that we just wait and hope she stays out of it.

That leaves the Smooze and possibly Izandai as "overriding" threats. Once they are taken care of, all bets are off. Tell your Princess that Discord will collaborate on eliminating those forces and THOSE FORCES ALONE (We don't care for either of the two sisters, and we have...plans for the humans).

So saith the prophet Lyntermas. Hail Chaos. Hail Discord.
darkwulf23 9th Mar 2012, 2:01 PM edit delete reply
Very well, I will bring this matter up to her Majesty myself. However, be advised Lyntermas, we do not treat treachery well, and where our Goddess is out and about, your God is still a lawn ornament. We know that he will be free eventually, but will he be free before you can take us?
Lyntermas 9th Mar 2012, 2:50 PM edit delete reply
As your Republic likes to say, time is our friend. As the Princesses are no longer the Bearers of the Elements, the seal they created is now weakening. His influence is already been seen in our forces, giving them...interesting abilities. I assure you, his imprisonment will soon end, and his full power will eventually put you in your place.

But for the moment, put your fears to rest. Self-preservation tends to override any "back-stabbing disorder" you may perceive us having, and we can't afford any games between us while the Smooze and Izandai threaten Equestria. As much as we hate to admit it, we might need your help with this one.

Incidentally, what is the Lunar Republic's View on the human Armada? Their technological advancement is impressive, but their character flaws can be quite...exploitable if you can predict them. General Bronymous might have been eager to take us on, but I believe even he recognized the threat the Smooze represents. On the other hand, they do seem rather bitter about the whole "extinction" thing, and we don't know if they wish to conquer Equestria or "return the favor" on ponykind. In addition, Discordians aren't the only group who are rumored to be treacherous.

So, Officer Darkwulf, ask your Princess. Should we seek a temporary alliance with the Armada to deal with this threat, or is it not worth the trouble?

Oh, and General Bronymous, please tell us your thoughts. You might not need to pack so many bullets in your first go (although packing some extra brains might be an effective use of newly-opened storage space).

If I ever get my DND group in on a MLP themed campaign, I'm definitely making the elements a thing just to tease them.
"It says that if you combine the traits with the magical artifacts, it'll deal 20d12 damage to any evil aligned creature"
"Wow, and we get to use them"
"Hell no, you are by far the least harmonious group of people I've ever had the displeasure of playing god with"

Came across it first on Magical Girl Neil, and it's just... perfect for this.
