I've touched on the subject of "inception vs. recursion" once before in page-title form.

Wait, what? It's my birthday? I'm a quarter of century old now?

Wait, you're younger then me?

Me as well.

Well, happy birthday!
Akouma 15th Aug 2017, 7:34 AM edit delete reply
Younger than me too. By a few months, anyway.

Merry birthmas, Spud!

Wait I'm older than you, Spud? Nah, just kidding. I knew that already.

Happy Birthday, Spud! Hope you have a great day today!

Or I guess, just "Happy Birthday" for short...

Older than me. It seems like everybody I know is turning old enough to rent a car around now.

Ah well. Soon.
aerion111 15th Aug 2017, 9:04 AM edit delete reply
Just barely 1 year younger than myself, who turned a quarter-century+1 on the 11th :P
Seems a lot of people are born within about a week's time of me - been seeing a lot of birthday notices lately.
The Old One 15th Aug 2017, 9:47 AM edit delete reply
.....I have nothing to say.

Happy Birthday, Kid

Wasn't Inception about recursive dreams anyway?
The actual word has little to do with anything in the plot, by what Google tells me of 'Inception' and its meanings.
So, 'VIPception' is 'VIP nested recursively like the dreams in Inception', not actual 'VIP-inception' which would just be 'the start of VIP stuff' or something.

I think that the titular "Inception" referred to planting an idea within the subject's mind - the idea of the dead CEO having loved his son was what was incepted. It's a reverse mental heist.
Cyborg7221 15th Aug 2017, 10:10 AM edit delete reply
There was also the bit where Cobb planted the idea in his Wife's mind that the world wasn't real, so that she would wake up... which caused a chain reaction that created the entire situation in the first place.

The whole movie is actually a metaphor for how movies plant ideas in their audiences, and how those ideas can range from healing to destructive. Plus a subtle subtext telling Nolan's fanbase to stop worshiping him as a god.

But for the purposes of Pinky's comment, it's only referring to the dream-within-a-dream thing.
Dusk Raven 15th Aug 2017, 11:53 AM edit delete reply
Well, the actual idea implanted in the new CEO was that he'd break up his father's corporate empire, but the crew couldn't do that directly so they went through an elaborate plan to, basically, get him to not try to be like his father. As a result, he'd do his own thing rather than maintain the massive conglomerate his father had built.

...Sadly, most people don't know what "inception" means and apparently didn't listen to the explanation in the movie, so now it's used wrongly.
Philadelphus 15th Aug 2017, 12:57 PM edit delete reply
And even though I DO know what "inception" means, I still find myself tempted to use it incorrectly on occasion the way other people do.

And that's how language evolves!
aerion111 15th Aug 2017, 11:01 PM edit delete reply
Like I said, I think of it as 'inception, as in the movie' rather than 'inception, as in the word'
Regardless of whether Inception did make sense in the movie - apparently there's a definition google didn't feel like sharing, or I'm interpreting it weirdly - it DID spend a lot of time with building up dream 'layers'.
So, if it's a VIP-section within a VIP-area, one could say 'VIP-inception', shortened to 'VIPception', to mean 'This is VIP layered within VIP, in a way reminiscient of the movie called Inception'
Movie titles can, in some contexts, make sense to be used as a word, whether noun, adjective, or verb ('We need to Weekend at Bernie's this situation', for example, presumably means faking that a tragedy has not happened, for the sake of either maintaining the current status quo (the first half of the movie) or avoiding serious danger (the second half))

Wishing you a Happy Birthday, Spud -- from an old guy to a young one.
Now just stay out of the heat waves, and you'll be fine. :)

May this have been only the first tenth, or even first 1%, of your life.

Because then you'll get to see what this fandom is like in a couple centuries, and (hopefully) still have cred for your role in it way back when. Not to mention, you'll still be around to contribute more, if you wish.

I do hope that this generation is capable of indefinitely elongated working lifespans. Because I'm just so gol-darned _curious_ about everything, but I move too slowly to really work stuff out in the societally and biologically acceptable timeframe everyone expects.

We're only 3 years away from the 'Five Score' time-line, for starters :P

But, yes, I think a lot of us internet-dwellers, if given immortality, would spend it mastering every topic.

It's like that *burp* movie Morty, that everyone's so crazy about! And if it doesn't make s*burp* sense, then neither does that movie!

Oh, and happy birthday.

So you were not yet 19 when the comic began? That means you were one of the youngest web cartoonists I've known.

Sheesh, I'm more than a decade your senior. I was not quite your age when I started my own (much less popular) webcomic.

Happy birthday !Thanks for giving US a gift!

And, since everyone's talking about how they're old than you, I'm gonna tell you: I'm not. I'm younger.

A very important distinction to make!
Inception requires THREE levels. They were very clear on that point. With two levels (recursion) you get a 'Yo Dawg'.
