Blueblood: Do not worry. I won't ask you to rush into this. I admire you just as much as you have no doubt idolized the idea of me. Besides, it would make ponies suspicious. We'll have a lasting courtship; really get to know each other. At the height of next year's Grand Galloping Gala, in front of every pony worth knowing in Canterlot, I will ask you to be my bride. And of course you will say "YES!" We will have a royal wedding, and you will be made a Princess of Equestria. And together, we will take on the greatest heist of all...
Fluttershy: "Love"?
Twilight Sparkle: "Childreading"?
Pinkie Pie: "Tax breaks"?
Rainbow Dash: "Mawwiage."
DM: No...
Blueblood: Equestria itself and all its riches!!
Applejack: Figured as much.
Speaking of heists, we've finally finished the "prologue" of the Dusk City Outlaws multi-campaign, which you can listen to now.
Session 7 - The Bookworm Job, Part 2: LibsynYouTube
I'm not sure if I want Rarity to go along with this or not...
Really, I'm struggling to see how Rarity could be retired at all - been struggling to see that from the start - but Newbiespud COULD pull it off. especially if the comic itself will be wrapping up, but I've not heard anything about that.
If it was just some random not-screenshot RP thing, I'd actually be for her accepting the deal and the player getting a new character - it's a nice finale to the arc, there's a few more scenes to do if you want to come back to the character, and they HAVE been building up to this for a while.
Except, that it isn't actual roleplay.
It's a retelling of my little pony, with the idea, "what if the story had been roleplayed, instead of written?".
And given the events that happen later in the series, and that Rarity herself is a main character, Rarity can't retire. Plain and simply, Rarity is a required element of the story, while Luna isn't. If the comic was ending, then yes Luna replacing Rarity could happen. But the author/artist of this comic has made no hints he's going to quit. And this arc will simply be ending season 1 of the show. There is still seasons 2 through 7 to attempt to adapt to this comic. In light of this evidence, Rarity will be rejecting his proposal, followed by the mane six causing the largest amount of chaos canterlot has ever seen. And Blueblood being publicly revealed as Elusive, and arrested by the guards.
After our heros have won and been thanked by Celestia for helping with the arrest of the leader of the thieves guild, they will all return to ponyville.
In the next arc discord will show up. And it will be revealed that they chaos they caused at the gala ultimately resulted in discord being freed from his statue. And the players will again break the campaign by either defeating discord, or fluttershy will befriend him really early.
Or she could accept his proposal, then once she's in the will he "Accidently fell down a flight of stairs on to a bunch of knives" or some other way to write BLUEBLOOD out, while keeping Rarity.
Or she could accept his proposal, then once she's in the will he "Accidently fell down a flight of stairs on to a bunch of knives" or some other way to write BLUEBLOOD out, while keeping Rarity.
You forget that she isn't in the will tillafter the marriage happens. And given that Blueblood plans to steal equestria, he clearly intends to kill both Celestia and Luna. He intends the wedding to not merely be his marriage. A royal wedding is also the perfect time for a prince to be crowned King, and his bride as Queen. Meaning Blueblood has plans to have Celestia and Luna both killed within the year, leaving himself to pickup the crown and gain controll of equestia both officially and as well as strengthening his hold on the criminal underworld.
What comic have *you* been reading? This comic isn't recreating the show as though it were a tabletop game. It's using the show as a basis to tell it's own unique story. Arcs from later seasons have already been used, including Hurricane Fluttershy and Luna Eclipsed.
As it stands, Rarity could go either way. As Blueblood says here, they would have a lengthy courtship. There's no reason why the party couldn't go on adventures with Rarity and Blueblood's "courtship" happening off-panel, and that's even if the characters bother with anything beyond superficial public appearances to keep up the ruse.
I honestly think she's going to take him up on his offer. Yes, he burned her, but he did it to save the guild from being compromised. And think of everything she'd gain: the noble marriage she's always wanted, the princess-hood she's always dreamed of, and she'd be welcomed back into the only family she's ever known.
Although, she could also use this "courtship" as an opportunity to get revenge. That would be fun, too.
Now I'm thinking of Twilight's fight with Tirek, and crossing that with Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. "Befriending" takes on a whole new level of meaning when the Starlight Breaker comes out...
Speaking of the comic wrapping up... we are approaching the thousand-page mark, and I'm worried that Newbiespud may take the opportunity to bring this webcomic to a close. I mean, it has gone on for an absurdly long time...
Hopefully he'll allow guest comics though. And hopefully he'll make another Story Time vid.
This is all speculation of course, I don't know how his schedule or his motivation will shape the future of this comic. We'll have to hear from him.
My expectation/hope is that the GM has been testing the Elements of Harmony designations during the past several arcs in a lead-up to Discord and their difficulty using those elements. In which case, having Rarity fail to maintain her generosity as she joins Blueblood's attempt to take over Equestria would be a great tie-in.
You know... one of the biggest issues with Blulusive's plan is that first panel.
Rarity stopped idolizing Elusive when he burned her for being the Element of Generosity/close to the Princess, and now he wants to use that connection and forbearance from Princess Celestia as a weapon again Celestia.
It's kind of heartless of him to ask Rarity to burn her new connections, but it fits him. He'd probably burn the entire Thieve's Guild, if it meant he'd get away with a huge scheme.
I can hardly wait to see how Rarity pulls his fantasy down, and becomes the greater person AND the greater thief, because she's stolen and entire life... merely by being honest and generous.
Also, I can't wait to see how the DM handles Rarity controlling/using the Thieve's Guild connections she gains too. ;D
Shades of a bit from the Diskworld novel "Interesting Times".
The Silver Horde had gotten into the palace and had taken a minor functionary prisoner to serve as a guide. The guide was trying to guess what they were there to steal, and kept being told 'no' as he went to rarer and more important artefacts. He was then asked a pair of questions that revealed what was going on:
"Have you ever actually seen the emperor?"
"No"
"So how do you know I'm not him?"
Equestria itself, eh? I wonder if "Elusive" and the Thieves Guild weren't supposed to be grudging allies during the whole Nightmare Moon campaign that was ended in one session? A sort of Machiavellian wheels within wheels sort of thing where the players would have to play him off against other factions as they marshaled an army up to fight the Nightmare.
Ah, well. Now we shall see just how much the Rogue has actually climbed out of the pit of self-interest into the hallowed halls of enlightened self-interest.
;)
Rarity's player DID consider marrying the Big Bad before this happened. But with her personal grudge and this high-handed plotting, I am pretty confident she's about to stomp his face into the marble.
