DM: Rarity, your response?
Rarity: I use my Unbalancing Trick, then go for a melee attack.
DM: That misses. You will not be knocking Elusive prone this turn.
Rarity: Drat.
DM: If that's all, then it's the goons' turn. Twilight, "Imoen" fires at you with her Magic Missiles.
Twilight Sparkle: Not like this…
DM: It hits.
Twilight Sparkle: As an immediate interrupt, I cast Shield. My AC and Reflex go up by 4.
DM: That's a miss, then. Now it's Pinkie.
Pinkie Pie: Heyyyy! Twi's next, right?
Twilight Sparkle: Um, maybe? If you're last and I'm first…
Pinkie Pie: And that group over there is looking pret-ty dangerous, right?
Twilight Sparkle: Seems that way…
Pinkie Pie: Then I use Glimpse the Future! I rolled an 8, a 10, and a 16! I can replace three d20s with 'em!
Twilight Sparkle: Ohhhh, I get it! Fixing the dice for a big attack!
Pinkie Pie: Yeah! Let's give 'em the ol' one-two!
So now we have a loosely defined initiative order, though I probably glossed over the ninjas' actions (and will continue to do so). Like most minions, they're primarily here to get dunked on in inventive ways.
There's another Dusk City Outlaws episode in the pipeline, but... I kinda had to make a choice between working on that or working on the project that should hopefully be coming out on Saturday. So that episode of Tales of New Dunhaven will get postponed to next week.
Notice: Guest comic submissions are still open until this arc is finished! Guidelines here.
In its initial 4th Edition version, it still had an attack roll, it "only" had better accuracy. It was only after a few rounds of errata that it was changed to an automatic hit without a damage roll.
It's coming from an enemy, and enemy powers aren't really meant to be treated the same as player powers in 4th. Players don't like getting auto-hit, even for low flat damage.
And since when does anyone care if they get hit by magic missile, especially on the first turn? If I remember correctly, it's one of the weakest spells, to make up for its perfect accuracy.
If every monster spell has the same effect, what is the point of even naming the spell? "The mook casts a spell and does monster damage. Next." The recommended damage is an average, and it's supposed to change if you use a more flexible or more situational spell.
it can be very powerful (like any other spell) with the right buffs.
A runepriest can make it deal a stacking +1 damage per missile that hits the trick is it lasts until one of your party members or you misses. and keeps stacking.
